Hello, I am upgrading my broadcast system from 1080p30 to 2160p59.94. I have 3 Studio Cameras 4k Pro, which I will connect to an ATEM Television Studio Pro 4k.

For this I considered buying 3 studio converters, but I found on the BMD forum that the recommended distance is up to 216' or 66 meters, which makes them useless for 2 of my 3 cameras, since they are at a distance of 300' or 90 meters. So my first question is: What is the maximum safe range distance of the ethernet cable with the Studio Converter and with what category of cable?

As a second option I considered the new Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G and I ask: Does it have the same function as the Studio Converter or does it not work with CCU, Tally, Intercom, PoE and what is the safe range of the ethernet on this model?

As a third option, I considered both the Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G and the Blackmagic 2110 IP Mini BiDirect 12G SFP, willing to lose the PoE but I have doubts about the signal that is sent to the camera, is it only PGM return or does it have CCU, Tally, Intercom control?

Fibre cable vs ethernet cable? - Fibre all day.

We regularly live stream an outdoor sports event whereby we run 3 x Ursa Broadcast G2s, using 3 x Blackmagic Mini Converter Optical Fibre 12G into 1 x ATEM Talkback Converter 4K > ATEM Television Studio Pro 4k. It's very reliable, there's no cable distance anxiety and no IP configs to get bogged down with.

The longest fibre run in the above instance is 2km, the second 1km and the third is local to the switcher. They are the venue's own fibre lines and we just tail into their fibre distro boxes. For other events we regularly put in 100-200 metre runs of armoured fibre, which nowadays is not expensive.

Regards SFP modules for the Mini Converters and the ATEM Talkback Converter 4K: Fieldcast - two thirds of the price of Blackmagic branded. We have 20 or so of their 12G SFPs and had no failures in the last 5 years of use.

Hi Louis, if you know... is it necessary to use an ATEM Talkback Converter 4K to use that fiber optic capacity or in BMD Studio Cameras can it be used only with the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4k?

It's not essential to use the ATEM Talkback Converter 4K at the switcher end, you can also use a Blackmagic Mini Converter Optical Fibre 12G at the switcher end - they're bi-directional. Any recent ATEM SDI switcher can be used in conjunction with those fibre converters.
