DeckLink Cards Reset Lose Mapping PostPower Loss (since V14)

PostThu Sep 26, 2024 11:05 am

Hello everyone,

We're experiencing an issue with our Blackmagic DeckLink cards, and we're hoping someone here might have insights or solutions to help us resolve it.

Issue Description:

In our software application, we list the available inputs from the DeckLink cards. We use connector mapping to combine certain inputs, and when an input is combined with a different input, we filter it out accordingly. Under normal operating conditions, this setup functions as expected.

However, we've encountered a problem when the computer undergoes a complete power loss (we see the same thing with different computer configurations and different types of DeckLink cards):

Scenario:
* We shut down the computer and disconnect the power plug (completely removing power).
* Upon rebooting the computer after this power loss, the connector mapping seems to reset to a default configuration (see attached screenshot).
* Specifically, Input 1 gets mapped to SDI 1 & 2 In and SDI 3 & 4 Out.

* In this state, both our software and Blackmagic Media Express only recognize Input 1 as available. The other inputs are not accessible.

Workaround:
* If we don't make any changes but simply reboot the computer again (without disconnecting power), all the inputs become available.
* The connector mapping returns to our desired configuration, where each input is mapped to a single connector (In & Out).
* This suggests that the mapping resets upon complete power loss but not on a standard reboot.

Impact:
This behavior affects us in several scenarios:
* When moving the computer for demos and presentations, which involves disconnecting power.
* At customer sites where studios are completely powered down after use.
* Each time, the connector mapping resets, and not all inputs are recognized unless we manually adjust the mapping or reboot the computer again.
* Manually reconfiguring the mapping every time is impractical, especially for end-users who may not be technically inclined.

Our Questions:
* Is there a way to automate the connector mapping configuration? Perhaps a script or software tool that sets the desired mapping upon startup.
* Is there a method to prevent the connector mapping from resetting after a power loss? For example, a setting that saves the mapping configuration permanently.
* Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is this resetting behavior normal, or could it be a bug in the DeckLink firmware or drivers?
* Are there recommended best practices for managing connector mappings in environments with frequent power cycles?

Additional Information:
* We're using the latest drivers and firmware available for our DeckLink cards. We see this since 14.x (this is an edit on the previous version of the post). If we revert back to 12.8 or 12.9 this issue is gone.
* The issue occurs consistently after a complete power loss but not on standard reboots.
* The problem affects both our custom software and Blackmagic Media Express in the same way.

This behavior seems unintended, and it's causing operational challenges for us and our clients. We're seeking a solution that either prevents the mapping from resetting or allows us to automate the reconfiguration process.

Any insights, suggestions, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance!

Best regards,
