Can't get Zoom to work on Mac

I am upset, I can't get the zooming functionality to working.
I tried some options like, resetting the settings, reinstalling and trying out different key combinations.
Can you help me maybe set the option key to a different one to zoom?
option + trackpad (two fingers moving) is not working to zoom the timeline in and out. The normal move the timeline zoom is working.
The zoom options are also greyed out.

anything I am doing wrong?
PS: I have Karabiner Elements installed, but it does not interfere with Premiere, I don't assume it is because of Karabiner.
