radiations interfering with live operations ?

PostFri Nov 15, 2024 10:27 am

Hello

Do you take special precautions with mobile phones versus equipments?
Are BMD (or others equipments involved) sensitive to RF radiation?

have a nice day.

In my experience we don't do anything differently with phones compared to any other equipment. You can see the kit list in the signature.

I saw some pictures taken outside of work with phones near atem panels or hyperdecks in obv. I was curious to know if there was no interference like you can get with two ways radios.

BMD sell USB C tethering for mobile streaming via a phone as a selling point - I think they'll be OK with mobile phones in proximity. The biggest issue with mobile phones used to be in the days of 2G when the phone RF could interfere with analogue audio (the tell-tale GSM interference we all knew and loved) To this day we usually ask for presenter/guest phones to be switched off (or made flight safe) in studios because of it (as their phone could be near a mic cable/pack) - though these days that's more to avoid them ringing on-air (or hearing the vibration on silent)

Yeah, it’s not really an issue today. Just about everyone on the team has 2-3 wireless devices at all times be they, phones, radios, coms, or wireless audio tx/rx. On the production side most have a phone, wl com, and a Motorola, guys in the band have wl instrument tx, wl mics, iems, and a phone.

That’s not to say that RF/EMI doesn’t exist just that it’s rare that a single device like a phone or radio is the culprit.

Good Luck

Just finished a two day conference last week for Apple mobile app developers with almost 220 phones in the room. No precautions and had no problems at all.
