Studio fiber converter and tally issues DB25

PostMon Nov 25, 2024 8:26 pm

Hello gentlemen,

I'm desperately in search of answers about a setup i'm trying to work with for a serie of 4 concerts this week. The topic is about using the studio fiber converter DB25 for red tally.

To be short for some reasons i'm using one Atem 4ME only for color grading, and one Atem constellation 8K for camera switching.

So first question, can i use the program output from both switchers, that i input in RET 1 and RET 2 of my studio fiber converter to control separately the tally and color chanels ? Will it work basically or is there a priority between connector RET 1 , 2 and 3 on the studio converter or is this just not compatible ?

2nd question , that's why initialy i used the program output from one switcher to control the color chanels, and on the director switcher, i used a gpi and tally interface + breakout cable, pins correctly connected, and connected to the studio fiber converter through the DB5. Here again correctly connected. But i don't get any red tally on my camera.

So my questions are :
- is there anything to setup into the atem software to activate tally by program return
- is there anything to setup into the studio fiber converter to make a priority on DB25 tally over sdi tally ?
- should i be able to receive a correct electric signal from the gpi and tally interface to input in the studio fiber converter with the DB25 ?
Any help would be much much appreciated as i'll be live tomorrow evening and until saturday

Have a great say guys

The environment was not designed to do camera control over one ATEM and Tally from another over SDI. The GPI Tally interface provides contact closure to ground and not the required positive voltage for the DB25 tally. Use a 9volt battery positive to the plus tally pin. Use the relay to ground the negative terminal to the DB25. One battery for each camera. Would easily last the show time. However I would recommend using the same switcher for camera control as switching. It’s a simple solution.

Hello Gary,

Thanks for your answer.

Ok but just let's take an other case. The company i work with they have mainly Panasonic vision mixers. AV HS 6000 for example.

This means that if i have to work with their URSA and Panasonic, i'll have to add batteries to my tally system ?

I'll check but i think it is only contact closure outputing from DB25 on this mixer too.
