Compatibility of VideoHub SmartControl Pro with Third-Party

PostWed Dec 18, 2024 11:19 am

Hi everyone,

We have Lightware MX16x16 DVI matrices and unfortunately, Lightware has discontinued their MX-RCP16 remote control panels. The Blackmagicdesign VideoHub SmartControl Pro was recommended as a replacement, but it's not clear how to get the controller to communicate with the switch.

Has anyone successfully used the VideoHub SmartControl Pro to control third-party matrix switches? Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The Blackmagicdesign VideoHub SmartControl is all text based communications.
All you need to do is get some translation software once you find the protocols.

That's great to hear and thank you for the reply! Gives me hope, lol.

We did have some trouble trying to intercept communications (button presses, etc.) when connected to the SmartControl with a laptop and looking at Wireshark. There did not seem to be any correlation with the button presses on the SmartControl and the types of messages coming through Wireshark.

Any insights on how to catch/read one or more of these text messages? I agree that if we could see a few of these messages, we could easily translate and use that to control another type of switch.

Thanks!

I dug a little deeper with Wireshark and was able to find the plain text commands coming from the Smartcontrol Pro. It uses port 9990. I'll work with our programmer to translate these commands four our Lightware switch.

Thanks for your help!
