Black Magic Micro 4K and Video Assist question.

Hello! I have a Micro 4K camera that I'm using in combination with OBS on windows. Right now I have it SDI out into a bidiriection SDI/HDMI, which has HDMI into capture card. Maybe SDI into a PCI capture card from black magic will be an upgrade for me next.
I avidly don't like playing with camera setting as it's just those few side buttons. My understanding is that if it's plugged into a video assist, the video assist will be able to change cameras settings, which correct me if I'm wrong on that.
My question is if that's true, how do those connect? Can I do HDMI out of camera into a video assist, and sdi into capture card? Or to change camera settings with video assist, does it need to be SDI from camera into video assist.
I know HDMI out on camera is only 1080 but I want to use this at 4K.
My hope would be HDMI from camera into video assist for easier setting changes if that works, and SDI into capture card. The price difference in 3G and 12g video assist is something I can't really justify for the low use stationary use case I'm interested in, so I hope this works.
Sorry if this rambled mess doesn't make much sense, I definitely over bought into the camera world with this camera off of someone recommending me this brand, i didn't even know what SDI was when I opened the box lol
