Hi everyone,

I’m working on integrating Clear-Com CC-400 headsets into our comms system and have run into a snag. The setup is as follows:

Fiber converter connects to a DB25 breakout cable.
Breakout cable connects to a 2-wire base station.
Headsets are connected via a 5-pin male to 4-pin male adapter on the URSA Fiberback.
The issue: I’m not getting any functionality from the headsets. I’m unsure if the problem lies with the breakout cable pinout, or something else in the chain. Breakout cable was made by a previous technician however it does seem to be following the correct pinout.

What I’ve checked so far:

No audio or comms signal is being passed through to the headsets.
Sidetone is working.
Has anyone worked with a similar setup or know the correct configuration for a DB25 breakout to a 2-wire base station? Could there be compatibility issues with the adapter? Any tips on troubleshooting this kind of system?

Hey Jared,

Not sure if anyone has responded but I have these same headsets & they are working fine for me. One thing to note is that those headsets have an automatic mute when you push the boom mic up away from your mouth. Also you will want to make sure on your CCU's (Studio Fiber Converter) that you have the talkback settings set up properly. In my set up I have the Production Channel Source as SDI + DB25 and the Engineering Channel Source as Intercom Tally DB25.

The last thing you want to make sure of is that you have the com switch on the back of your camera fiber converters on the same channel as you have set-up in your CCU (Studio Fiber Converter). You may also need to mess around with the Intercom 1 or 2 settings.

Hello Jared. The problem will not be with the headsets as Peter has noted. The connections at the DB-25 on the Studio Fiber Converter must be wired to an intercom 4-Wire interface. There is no support of a 2 Wire interface here. It is simply balanced analog audio in and out at the DB-25. Any Clearcom 4 Wire interface to your system should work fine. I hope this helps.
