We have an Ultrastudio 4k and have previously run Key/Fill from ProPresenter via the Thunderbolt input with no issue.
We are doing a job shortly where the input for the Key/Fill is via HDMI not Thunderbolt. The unit has an HDMI input; will this produce Key & Fill in the same way?
Many thanks for any input!
No I don't think this is a route for you. The Ultrastudio 4K is a device that uses Thunderbolt to interface to the computer generating video (or capturing video), Thunderbolt isn't a video connection (it's not like HDMI, SDI or Displayport) - TB is a way of interfacing the Ultrastudio 4K I/O box to your PC or Mac (think of Thunderbolt as PCI-E-over-a-cable - but instead of a PCI-E card inside a computer you are using a TB device externally)
In the case of your normal use case you are running ProPresenter on the PC/Mac and then that software is communicating with the Ultrastudio via Thunderbolt and then the Ultrastudio is generating SDI Key and SDI Fill from the two SDI outputs on the Ultrastudio. (These are two separate video signals - the Key signal is just a black and white signal that cuts holes for the Fill)
If your new scenario involves a third party providing Key and Fill as two HDMI feeds, the Ultrastudio 4K is not useful, as you won't be using it to generate an SDI Key and SDI Fill under Thunderbolt interfacing. (It's not a converter box)
If you are being provided with two HDMI signals - one carrying Key and one Carrying Fill then you either use HDMI inputs on your switcher or convert from HDMI to SDI using something like a pair of BMD HDMI to SDI Micro Converters (HD/3G SDI or 12G SDI depending on the flavour). This is assuming the HDMI Key and Fill are in standard 1080i, 1080p, 2160p format.
It's worth also double checking that it IS separate HDMI Key and HDMI Fill cables - and not a luminance or chrominance self-key from a single HDMI feed.
