atem mini and 12k cine camera

PostWed Mar 12, 2025 3:03 pm

I have an Atem Mini Extreme ISO. If I bought a 12k cine and used BMs bidirectional sdi/hdmi converter could I control the 12k similar to how I can control a Pocket 4k/6k? Using the color corrector, focus, aperture, turning the camera on and off?

Since the URSA Cine does not have an SDI input for camera control you can stream to an ATEM Streaming Bridge. Connect your SDI from the ATEM or converter to the SDI reference Input on the Bridge. This will provide camera control and tally. I hope this helps.

Since the SDI reference input evidently takes camera controls, couldn't I use a bidirectional hdmi to sdi converter, the same as the non-cine 12k? HDMI going from the HDMI output of the converter to the HDMI input of the atem, and the sdi output of the converter going to the reference in, and the sdi input of the converter to the sdi output of the 12k cine?

I don't understand how using the streaming bridge in that way is different. Just would like to leave it wired if possible. Going wireless sounds like more headaches.

EDIT: Oops, I read that wrong and I go to the reference input of the streaming bridge not the camera. Sorry. I assume I can still use a wired video signal and just use the bridge for control?

Yes. The SDI outputs of the URSA Cine are available. You don’t have to use the Bridge video. Just the back connection of the stream for control. It’s an extra piece but will work.

It's not SDI reference, it's proper analog reference or LTC depending, both without camera control.

With all of the different ways that these two devices can connect it is beyond mysterious that a black box needs to be implemented for any kind of interface between the two.

Good Luck

If I connected the 12k cine camera to my network that the atem is on, with either wireless or the ethernet connector, will the atem switcher software in my laptop control the camera? Turning it off and on, and color correcting? Bypassing the need for the streaming bridge?

To help with some general information. The URSA Cine and PYXIS cameras do not have an SDI Input which is the only way an ATEM can directly control these cameras. For ATEM control, the cameras can stream to the ATEM Streaming Bridge. The Bridge has both traditional analog reference inputs as well as an SDI reference which can be used by the ATEM as a return signal to the camera. The return will carry ATEM camera control to the streaming camera if connected to an ATEM program or supporting SDI output. This is the only way to do it with an ATEM. There are other methods of camera control such as Bluetooth and REST. I hope this is clearer.

OK, thank you, I'll make sure to get a Streaming Bridge. But one last question if you don't mind. How does the 12k Cine get the control signal? I assume an ethernet cable from the streaming bridge to the ethernet port of the camera?

The streaming connection is bidirectional over Ethernet. The reverse data is not video but has camera control commands, tally and program audio or optionally talkback to the camera.

Gary if I am wanting to have 4 separate PYXIS cameras receiving camera control from my Constellation do I need a streaming bridge for each one?
