Time code sync for BM hyperdeck HD's with Sync Generator

PostMon Apr 28, 2025 4:29 am

Hello,
I have 4 Hyperdeck Studio HD recorders that are used for PGM and 3x ISO recording.
Recordings are for events and almost always in 59,94P
Camera outputs and Switcher outputs are in 59.94P.

I am looking for a solution that can TC sync them
I read that the BM Sync generator can generate timecode
I also read that if you do an update thrue BM software, the unit should be able to do TC for 59.94P.
Without the update it will only do TC for 29.97P, like the tentacles do.

can you please confirm 59.94P TC output is possible with the software update?

I understand that the BM sync generator, like the AJA Gen Generator is for Blackbust ref inputs.
Is it correct that it can also do TC, if so, how?

There are not many TC generator solutions out there for this setup so I hope this BM product might be the solution.
Looking forward to your input.
Thank you,
Rinse

It doesn't and you don't reference records, reference the sources and the switcher, not the destinations.

LTC doesn't have words for frames numbers higher than 29.00. Use 29.97 when syncing 59.94 sources.

Good Luck

Hi

Take a look, maybe it will help you.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=198499.

I've used HyperDeck's Studio HD in many projects, and I sync them using the TIMECODE output of the HyperDeck designated as Master (I use the PROGRAM recorder as Master). Timecode output from my Master to the TimeCode IN of my HyperDeck-Camera-1, TC-Out goes to the TimeCode IN of HyperDeck-Camera-2, and so on.

Then, when I press record on the HyperDeck Master, the other recordersstart recording at the same time (there may be a delay at the start of recording, but the important thing here is keep the same timecode for each recorder/each file). If I STOP recording, the others stop.

Important:
menu configuration for camera recorders:
Trigger record: Timecode run
Timecode input: External

In this case, you do not need change these settings to the HyperDeck MASTER, but you can use a specific timecode (say: 05:00:00;05), so you can check that the other recorders are receiving the right TimeCode.

A recommendation to data management easier is to use a different PREFIX for each recorder so that the file names begin with a specific prefix for easy identification. Easy way using HyperDeck Setup to custome it. Also, change the camera Number / name inside the Menu.

I have also used the REMOTE port (DB 9 pin) you just have to have the correct cables, and use the same concept of In and OUT chain, but using REMOTE connectors

I hope help

Thank you both for the information. Very helpfull.
In the end I have used a tentacle sync unit, at 29.97P DF daisychained to all 4 BM recorders and this seems to work. I did a 4hr test record and there was no drifting.
I could not get the internal TC generator on the master to work because it would automatically start recording every time it was powered on and then could not be stopped.

We used to work with 2 AJA Kipro Ultra's for our recordings. The units are great and defenitely superior to the BM Hyperdecks, but we needed 4 new 1TB SSD;s for them to work properly and the costs were just prohibitive.
So I think we can make this Hyperdeck setup work, but if you compare to the Kipro, it is a 2nd place choice for sure. I guess, as with everything in live, you get what you pay for and the BM setup is value for money, even with the limitations in the setup.
Thank you again for your input.
Groet,

Hi Rinse

Just to add, maybe it helps.

The HyperDeck MASTER timecode setting a PRESET mode (if you want), and the setting should be REC Run  ...

NOT Free Run :!: .

Because in Free Run, the timecode forward all the time, Even if not recording,, that why the other recorders start recording immediately because read a external timecode that forward.

The REC Run mode, the timecode ONLY start to forward when you press REC and stops when you press STOP.
If you press REC again, the timecode forward ("keep moving")

I hope help
