Ultimatte and smart remote

PostTue May 06, 2025 6:33 am

I am looking to purchase an Ultimatte 12 HD Mini. The manual references the Smart Remote 4. I prefer having tactile control, as opposed to running it through my PC or Mac via software. Yes, I know that the Smart Remotes are actually Windows machines running software, but using knobs for granular control seem to work better for me. My question is whether the Smart Remote 4 is the only remote compatible with the Ultimatte 12 Hd Mini? Can a Smart Remote 2 or 3 control it the same? The prices for the Smart Remote 4 are a little prohibitive.

Here is a smart remote 4 on B&H in the used section. Still expensive but it is $1,200 off.

Precisely! That’s why I want to know if a Smart Remote 2 or 3 will work. If the Ultimatte itself is $549, I would be ok with a used smart remote in the $750 range.

According to the manual it's only the Smart Remote 4 at this time. My guess is that the software has been updated at that's where they are at. Honestly it would be cheaper to just pair the software interface with a streamdeck type of device if you want the tactile feeling.

Excellent suggestion. I can use my stream deck and still make it granular control.

Thanks!

Ok. Got my Ultimatte HD Mini and set it up. Using the software control I get great results. Using Companion with my Streamdeck is a little confusing. I saw the presets, but cannot figure out how to make adjustments equal to turning knobs left and right. I have been using Companion and Streamdeck for about 3-4 years, but had the old version running. I upgraded to the new one, and a little lost. Can anyone help?
