Decklink Studio 4k Pro presenter Camera/Audio issue

PostTue May 13, 2025 12:40 am

Hello everyone.

We have what I think is kind of a unique setup. We use a Studio 4k card to ingest camera feed and AES audio from our console. We have been using this for over a year with mostly good success. On a few occasions the audio went south (became digitized sounding and a few times completely unusable). With the routine of restarting Pro Presenter weekly those issues went away. This was all on Pro Presenter 17.6.3 and Mac OS Ventura.

--Back Story--

Last year before upgrading to SDI we had quite a few issues with displays blinking out randomly. We made the decision to upgrade the Mac and go SDI to all displays in the main room (using a quad2 card). This become a long process due to Pro Presenter version issues and 7.6.3 not being compatible with Sequoia. Finally what seems to be a stable version of pro was released (18.4). Upon all our initial testing everything was working great, until we tested the stream, camera and audio.

Now with the new setup with the same cards we initially had an issue with the camera not holding (going black in Pro Presenter). The camera consistently works in Media Express but in Pro it would go to a black screen upon restarting Pro. I don't remember if it also went black in Media Express at that point (I need to double check). The only way to get the camera back in Pro was to restart the Mac completely.

After having these issues I switched the camera to a USB HDMI input device we have (3rd party) and had to add a dummy HDMI signal to the Studio card to get the AES audio to work again. Everything worked fine two Sundays ago. After this I kind of had a thought that the Studio card treats Video and Audio as one input (so it seams). So I tried using the embedded audio vs a separately configured audio input in Pro on the Studio card.

At this point everything seemed great, I could close Pro Presenter and re-open multiple times and the camera stayed locked in. Until we had our first service, at this point the camera was still fine and the audio was at first. Then in the second song the audio became a bit echoey or reverbish. I restarted between services and again the first song was fine, again at the second song it started again. At this point I went back to the first stream and watched the song transition, it was immediately upon the credits coming up (this is when the first slide of song is clicked). It dawned on me that all our songs have a macro for lighting, looks and input for Camera. It seems that upon the second selection of the camera the audio starts this issue.
After the service ended, I did some testing and confirmed, anytime the camera input is selected again after being active this issue starts.

I believe it is a Pro Presenter issue, especially because it is fixed by restarting it or I believe clearing the inputs and reselecting. We have this macro on our songs because you never know what song will be the first in the set. For now I might just have the camera launch by the timer and not the songs, but it really should not be an issue. There are other times where we might switch to a laptop input on the USB HDMI device I mentioned before so going back to sermon look reactivates the camera. Hopefully I can figure out some work arounds for now.

I have engaged support but they of course do not have any reports of this issue and I believe it is a fairly unique setup.

My interest in this post is to see any feedback of anyone using this card with Pro Presenter and if they have had any issues? BMD support said there are definitely some users using this combination.

Sequoia 15.4.1
Pro Presenter 18.4
BMD 14.5

TIA
