2110 Fibre to Ethernet converters

PostMon May 19, 2025 2:36 am

I'm wanting to setup a portal fibre based stage box for gig's I work on. I have armoured fibre with 8 cores. I'd like to start using the 2110 converters, but the mix of some being fibre and others ethernet is making that hard. I'm only supporting 3G HD at this time but would like the option of switching to 12G in the future, using PtP aware switches at each end and 2x25G links between them.

So initially I'd like to just use a point-to-point link between the 2110 3x3G converters, over fibre.

Does anyone know if generic 10G fibre to ethernet converters will cause a problem with 2110 either point to point, or even a converter at one end and a PTP aware switch at the other (like the new Unifi XG 24 Pro). Something like an MC420L, but I'm not tied to a unit, as most converters don't seem to be PTP awaref.

I haven't found any clear information on whether it would cause problems in a simple point to point setup if the converter was NOT PtP aware, I've event reached out to BMD support who couldn't say.
