New Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K

PostFri May 30, 2025 3:13 pm

I see BMD announced two new Streaming devices - the Blackmagic Streaming Decoder 4K and the Blackmagic Streaming Encoder 4K.

The Encoder mentions that it can stream out via RTMP/SRT to many online platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, etc.

The Decoder only states that it can receive RTMP/SRT from the BMD Encoder. Is that accurate? Is it not possible for this device to accept RTMP/SRT from other sources. We use other brands to ingest video but we may need to add to our workflow additional inbound connections and would much rather go with a BMD device for several reasons such as the mini-display (aside from great quality hardware). I don't want to blow $745 on a test device to see if it would work without being official either.

Any chance the new hardware will accept RTMP/SRT from a source not the Blackmagic Streaming Encoder 4K?

Relatively good decoder is Kiloview D260 ..

Have two outputs .. Freely configurable .. 2x HDMI out and 1x SDI out ..
Not good for 24/7 broadcast ..

Thanks Roman. I had tested the KiloView with the original firmware at the time had some issues with our streaming partner. We opted for Datavideo NVD-35.MK2 instead. I kept the Kiloview for testing and their latest firmware appears compatible with our partner now.

As we use a lot of BMD hardware, I was simply hoping to keep it in the family as the new device has some compelling features:

1. Three across for rackmounting.
2. Mini-display to easily monitor the stream.
