Remote into Atem Television Studio HD via Tailscale

Hi

I am trying to setup remote control of an Atem Television Studio HD over the internet using Tailscale(.com) to provide the VPN side. Normally I can remote from say my home to office using Tailscale setup and connect to servers etc.

Tailscale gives me remote access to the office network. The "ATEM Software control" loads and it picks up the local 10.0.0.75 Atem address and displays the vision mixer ui with no errors. However the ui flashes and will not take any button presses or settings.

The "ATEM Setup" doesn't load the Atem at all in this remote setup.

I have read that the ATEM sends UDP packets and may fail with only TCP packets?

Is there a simple way to make ATEM and Tailscale play nicely.

Do I need to forward UDP Ports to my discrete Tailscale IP or the other way round? What ports are needed?

Any thoughts gratefully recieved

regards

Simon

The Atem control protocol is very timing sensitive and does not work reliably over long distance or high latency connections.

The normal solution to this sort of idea is to run the software control on a device local to the Atem and then remotely access that device.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. We trying to minimise the number of machines on the ATEM end as needs to be low power, robust and always on.

Is this increased UDP traffic something that has changed in the software 7.5 and up?

I believe this used to work as has been suggested as a solution to switch video sources over a starlink by an engineer familar with the Atem.

Is it possible we need to open some UDP ports up for the remote tailscale IP?
