SDI to HDMI Mini Converter faulty?

PostWed Nov 07, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi,

I'm just trying out a mini SDI to HDMI converter and it appears to be faulty. I have a known good 1080i 25 SDI signal feeding it, which is looping out of the output BNC to another monitor (which proves the source as good). The SDI Lock light is steady.

Two things make me believe it's faulty:
1. The signal on the HDMI monitor keeps coming and going, and when it appears it's covered in digital sparklies.
2. Both the Video Levels tab, and the Settings tab on the Utility are greyed out.

I also tried feeding the converter with 25PsF, 720P, 24P. They all have the greyed out screens and the faulty HDMI output.

Does it sound faulty to you guys?

Thanks,
Tony

How long is the HDMI cable and did you try to swap that with another one?

Sparklies are commonly seen when using poor quality HDMI cables. Try a shorter cable, or drop the resolution to SD just to see if you get rid of those sparklies.

That's quite long, and even if a cable is new it could be faulty.
Also, it is the only cable between the source and the problem, so it is actually the first thing to do.
