david, what version of software are you running with your 2M/E? just curious.
we are running ver 6.3 on a 1M/E 4k and 2x 2M/E non-4k. we have run all three switchers and 3 videohub routers on the same network along with one BMD 1 M/E panel and 2 GVG100/arduino "Baz" conversion panels. we run both mac 10.8 and windows 8.1 computers, even on wifi. i'm running a single system this week on a 8-10 hour production day. all of this and i don't see these dropout issues everyone is talking about.
router settings is a topic that could fill a lifetime, but one thing to ensure is that you don't ever get a duplicate address in the system. for instance, if your router auto assigns IP between 2 and 100, but you fix the ATEM at 10, if the router then auto assigns 10 to another device you will have problems. i'm wondering if the dropouts i read about often result from such conflicts. make sure you know the DHCP range, and set your fixed IP devices outside of that range but still inside your same subnet.
the subnet mask can make or break you, the normal setting of 255.255.255.0 defines the network to allow address starting with the same three octet numbers to talk freely together. so 192.168.1.1 talks to 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3, but will ignore/block 192.168.2.2 or 192.168.10.240. make sense?
that being said, the default ATEM address is 192.168.10.240. if you want everything to play nicely, you should either set your router to run a 192.168.10.xxx network, or change the ATEM numbers to match whatever IP numbers your router is already running.
