Hyperdeck Studio/Pro and RS422?

I am looking into replay options for a couple of my Blackmagic live broadcast rigs. The Hyperdeck would be my preference, but I am not sure about the control features.

1. Can the RS422 hook up to a Sony (or other) VTR control for transport controls? Will the Hyperdeck do slow motion (or slow-play)?

2. Can the ethernet and thunderbolt be used to record clips and playback clips for replay?

Any insight to these questions would be great.

Thanks in advance

Derek

As far, I know, the Ethernet Port has currently no function.

The Hyperdeck can be controlled by RS422 and it seemes to give a smooth slowmotion. Here or in atemuser.com is spoken about it. The uses controller ist the dnf300. (But) The deck works like a tape, so playback while recording is not possible.

1. Yes, the HDS Studio can be controlled remotely with an RS-422 control device. I've had success using a Panasonic unit, but Sony should work too, as long as it uses the RS-422 protocol. Not all of the functionality on the control device may be available on the HDS, though.

2. Ethernet port is not even activated, I wonder when they will put this to use, along with the non-functioning buttons.

Is it possible to control 8 hyperdeck with one RS-422 controller like the Panasonic or the Sony?

I'm not sure what specific controllers you are talking about, but they use a pretty standard sony RS-422 deck control protocol.

And since this is an old thread, I'll append the previous posters by saying that there now is some ethernet based machine control commands available since their original responses. I'm not sure how complete either protocol really is. They both seem to have a few missing gaps (from my understanding). But they are there, and work for the most part.

Controlling eight decks from one RS-422 controller will require eight DB-9 connectors, and the ability to switch between them. Some RS-422 have multiple connectors built into them. I have an old DNF controller with four ports. So I can easily control four Hyperdecks. With a little work, I could install some RS-422 switches that would expand that control to eight decks. I also have a 72x144 Videohub, which has machine control switching available on it, and plan to utilize them in the near future. (I'm in the beginning stages of getting all of this up and running). Theoretically, I could control 71 decks with one controller using the VideoHub router to switch my RS-422 control.
