ATEM can't control Production 4K Camera

PostWed Dec 10, 2014 7:37 pm

Hi
When I connect a BM Production Camera 4K to an ATEM Television Studio nothing happens.
I understand that the camera output is 1080i/59,94, the same format supposedly recognized by the ATEM.

What can I do?

According to the tech spec page, 1080i is not one of the supported formats for the camera.

Ok, thanks.
This is what I found:
"SDI Video Output
1 x 6G-SDI 10-bit 4:2:2 with choice of Film or Video dynamic range."

Anyway, it says nothing about resolution.
Framerate?
Res 1080P? 720P? any idea?

It's under the camera features section of the tech spec page. You'll see the full list of supported formats.

Ok, I see.

Considering that the topic "SDI Video Output" says nothing about format and resolution, should I suppose that the "recording" features are equal to the "output" features?

I mean, I see those recording resolution, but my question is about the output features. For instance, the Alexa camera records 1080P, but the output is 1080i, due monitoring issues. This question is the same, I see recording features, but the output info is clearly insufficient.

So, can someone tell what's the output framerate and format of the Blackmagic Production 4K camera?

The SDI output is the same as what is being recorded. Sorry if there was confusion on my part.

Hello Rogelio. Since there was some confusion in other threads and an error in the manual, I wanted to point out the Production 4K Camera SDI output is always Progressive and will be the same frame rate as the recording mode. When recording in any of the 4K modes, the SDI output may be switched to a 1080P mode at the same frame rate. Currently, there are no interlaced (Psf) SDI output modes available in this camera.

Thanks Tony and Gary.

It would be great if a future upgrade will give us Psf.

This issue comes from using the ATEM Television Studio as an HD Mixer for digital cinema. ATEM is compatible with 720P (Red Epic) and 1080i (Arri Alexa). This so called 1080i is indeed 1080 Psf in the Alexa camera.

When trying to add a Production 4K camera to the chain there's no way to do it.
Pretty hard to believe being these two products part of the same BlackMagic Design family.

Regards, Roge
