Need to drive a projector from AUX out

PostTue Dec 23, 2014 8:43 pm

We have a graphics computer on CAM1 HDMI in. We need the AUX to follow CAM1 BUT ONLY when CAM1 is Program. Otherwise, CAM1 needs to be black. Any ideas how to accomplish this? The talent only wants to see their slides when the program audience does but does not want to see anything else.

You may want to take a look at the SDK or maybe someone will have a suggestion about 3rd party software that could do this for you.

Yes this is quite easy to do in most of the 3rd party options (yet impossible in native Blackmagic system!)

JustMacros or a Skaarhoj controller can easily be programmed to do something like..

if input1 tally == program {aux1=input1};
else aux1= black;

It is a shame that Blackmagic do not have a native solution for this kind of macro functionality as it is quite a normal need for serious productions.

cheers

if it was easy it wouldn't be called engineering

I can write a helper app for you.

Which Aux and what is the IP address of the ATEM?

The Aux will be set to black unless CAM1 is on Program, correct?

Yes I would love to get a helper app to do this! Yes, the AUX1 will be black except when CAM1 is program. In that case, AUX1 = CAM1

Do you need my ATEM to be accessible on the public internet in order for you to do this or do you just need the private IP that I will use?

I plan on using AUX1

Sent a PM with a download link. No, my software looks at the computer's registry to find
your local switch. Install the program and it's DLL files on a computer that has the ATEM software
controller but not in the same folder. I use newer DLL files than the current ATEM software ships.

When you don't need the special AUX1 switching just close the program.

The helper works great. Thanks so much! Is this very hard to do? Do you use the SDK? I have a developer on staff and he was wondering what dev tools are needed to do this?

I develop for mostly Linux but can implement Windows.
https://github.com/petersimonsson/libqatemcontrol for the protocol.
http://qt-project.org/ for GUI and process libraries.

Unfortunately, ATEMs are not officially supported in Linux by BMD just the Decklink cards.

Would it be possible to get the helper to have a slower transition, say .5 seconds?

Also, I would like to give you something for your generosity...

The Aux buses are "selector" type connections so, unfortunately, there is no
built-in command to fade in/out.

I could use a Panasonic AG-HPX370 camera or make a donation to a charity near you.
Whichever is more practical. My favorite is Habitat for Humanity.
