Using TVS to encode from 1 M/E?

PostMon Jun 15, 2015 3:59 pm

Hello everyone,

Has anybody here ever used the Atem TVS to encode H264 from an Atem 1 M/E?

Thanks!

I don't know, but why not? It makes no difference, if there is a camera connected or an other vision mixer...

Yeah, what Thomas said, but make sure the audio is up on the port you input on the TVS. Essentially you are utilizing the TVS as an expensive blackmagic h.264 pro recorder.

Or a much more versatile h264 pro recorder.

Yes I do this. Just remember the audio.

Thanks for letting me know and for the tip about the audio. Very helpful!

I realize that purely for the H264 encoding this may seem like overkill but there are a couple of advantages for my use case.

1. Form factor: easy to mount in a proper Rack
2. Modularity and Expandability (can start with a TVS and add the 1 M/E later)
3. Not all of our events require the 1 M/E

I'm thinking of starting with a the TVS and then adding a ATEM 1 M/E later for the DVE capability and other features like the XLR input/output which is useful for recording microphones passed around the audience and also to send audio out to conference speakers.

Cool, the 1me xlr won't work with mics directly as it's line in only.

Regardless of the video mixer that you use, you will need an audio mixer or pre amp to bring in a mic
