There are a lot of issues people have had with the GoPro's HDMI output. Often in 1080p mode (at 25 fps/30 fps, 50/60 fps or higher), the GoPro will try to output a 1080p50 or 1080p60 signal.
So even though the GoPro may be set to record at 1080p25, the signal on the HDMI output may be a higher framerate that the Mini Recorder doesn't recognize (1080p50).
Some people had success using an EDID detective between the GoPro and target device to try to force the GoPro to output an interlaced 1080i50 or 1080i60 signal which would be more likely to be recognized by the Mini Recorder. But it seemed like people had better results doing this with GoPro 3 and earlier models than with the latest.
I haven't tried this exact combination of GoPro4 with Mini Recorder, so this is just based on experience using GoPros with various other devices.
