Thanks aeldryn! Did you happen to try Wirecast? Hoping to use both USB3 and Thunderbolt Intensity Shuttles for a 2 cam HD shoot. Thanks! ~J :D

Please let us know if you get this combo working! What laptop are you using?

Can anyone confirm the G55VW-DH71? I have the one with USB3 and TB. TB works great but not usb3.. And pretty sure I had the Driver: V3.5.24.0, the one listed as working. I am going to rebuild the OS tonight, disable wifi, bluetooth and the webcam. Maybe if I use an older version of Desktop video?

Intel USB3 X host controller - driver version 2.5.0.19

Also tried update to ver 2.5.1.28 8/8/2013

Desktop Video ver 9.7.5

Shuttle connects initially and managed to make a couple of captures, then it started disconnecting / reconnecting and loses the plot! Sometimes I can get it to work again but it's basically flaky. Often after playing back a clip - that seems to make it disconnect.

Update to DeskTop Video 9.7.7 doesn't work at all..

Back Tracked to DeskTop Video 9.7 seems to improve matters. Main glitch seems to be the Intensity Shuttle must be plugged in before starting capture program...

Maybe using a USB hub might help??? (Assuming it's possibly a power issue...?)

Hub will not work. So version 9.7.7 did not work at all? I seem to remember the USB working a bit better with older versions. Can anyone confirm what versions work with USB3, they all should but who knows..

The site still hosts the drivers for the USB3.0 but since it is a third party site, we have no control over them. There are some problems with us hosting them from my understanding also which is why it hasn't been done already.

My understanding on this is since they are not drivers provided by our company, we cannot host. However if you're looking for the links to the site, you can find them earlier in this thread.

Wasn't there talk of Desktop video 10? Maybe some updates on the USB3 drivers? I cant even get SD on the USB3 when my thunderbolt shuttle is plugged in at the same time. I have to totally reboot, unplug the TB to get the USB3 to work again, and even then its only 40% of the time working..

Dell Precision 4800 Works great with ATEM TVS. Works for about 12 minutes with Shuttle then I get the BSOD. All drivers up to date as well as BM Product i.e. Media Express. I have no problem getting pictures in Media Express, ATEM Control and Wirecast But... ten minutes into streaming BSOD!!! Sucks. I have to use the shuttle because of Wirecast. I was using the ATEM TVS with Livestream and I had no issues whatsoever. CRAP!. Just paid Wirecast for a year.

I assume it is the USB 3.0 issue. I have the latest driver for the USB 3.0 extensible Host Controller

Oskari:

Can you provide more specs on your ASUS? What OS? What Processor? Etc. Any additional details would be very much appreciated. I was considering purchasing the ASUS X550C you have confirmed is working with the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0....

Thanks in advance!

Seems like 1/2 the ppl here want to do a 2 cam HD shoot with a laptop using Wirecast or something like that.
So,, Blackmagic will you be coming out with a thunderbolt version of a shuttle with 2 HDMI in's ? or is there "ANY" Windows laptop that is capable of running a 2 cam HD shoot with your products?
Lets cut the crap and get a real answer here...

Alienware is now owned by Dell.

And no, you can't use Reneas drivers with non-Reneas hardware, that's not the way it works.

Mike....

I knew I was stretching with the driver comment!!! I know in the past, I've used printer drivers not necessarily developed for the printer I had...kind of worked...

I have seen in previous posts that the general consensus is that the ASUS gaming models are working with the Shuttle USB 3.0. Do you know (or have a strong opinion) that the new ASUS models will work? I noticed that the new ones I am looking at have a zero on the end of the model number (G750....)

Thanks for the info....just trying to increase my chances of getting a laptop that will work.

The G750 is the newest, and I have the G55 (which is one version behind it), and have no problems.

I've personally tested the G53, G74, and G55, and none have had issues. I doubt the G750 would have any issues.

Intensity Shuttle USB3

0 problems.

It seems like folks are having less issues with this on newer laptops, right? I was able to capture from the Ultrastudio SDI using a Dell Latitude E5530, and have been planning on purchasing a Precision M4800 as a dedicated capture machine.

It also looks like there was a Desktop Video update released today, wanted to see how this has affected compatibility for anyone?

Hey, can I confirm that you have the USB 3.0 Intensity working on that Dell N5110, without an add/on USB controller, or anything like that? I have a customer that has IT supplied Latitude E6430, which is newer, but I'm trying to figure out whether I can tell him to at least give this a shot, or just tell him that BM doesn't support Windows for capture on current model PCs.

That or, of course, if anybody out there can share any other success/failure stories they might have, especially with Dell Latitude series laptops and QM77 chipsets.

Thanks in advance.

Hello there

I can confirm that the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle with USB 3.0 does work with a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop (of the 2014 vintage).

We tested it in the UK with a Sony Projector HD Video Camcorder setting the Black Magic Encoder to PAL input in order to match the camera output.
The operating system is Windows 8.1

Our issues are the following:

1) When the Shuttle is connected to machine through USB 3.0, we do not hear a sound and there is no notification. The only way to see the device is Control Panel -> System -> Devices

2) At the moment, we are struggling with getting the input captured with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. How does one capture with the Intensity Shuttle? "Capture device does not exist". It is not clear how to force Premiere Pro CS6 to recognise that there is a device connected, namely the Intensity Shuttle.

3) The Black Magic Encoder can do with some improvement.

3a) It is not suitable for ultra high DPI screen on the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (3200 x 1800 pixel resolution, which is also applies to similar laptops too). *FIXME*

3b) When you press capture the digital frame 00:00:00:00 remains at 00:00:00:00. It does not track the real- time, which is incredibly useless on a live recording. This is basic GUI software engineering to update a Label widget against a scheduled time Plain Old C/C# action controller. :-/ During a capture session, you only see the elapsed time when you stop the capture! *FIXME*

3c) The encoder should have or allow other video CODECs to be plugged into the program. In fact, if you want to sell more of these boxes, consider the PROSUMER market, not everyone wants to capture a Gigs of Video footage, some people want to directly produce a WMV or MOV on the fly. Consider on option for some folks who just want to rough capture to SD and not necessarily HD with smaller file size so that they can just upload to DropBox or chuck on a USB 2G (ten a penny) conference thumb drive stick. We could then have a store a lot of footage on a laptop without lugging around external drives. It would be fantastic to have on the fly MPEG4 compression / encoding *FEATURE REQUEST*

Despite my criticism, the Shuttle has been a life saver. ;) Our work around is to load the massive AVI files into Windows Video Maker and then generate smaller WMV files for customers and upload them or dump them onto sticks.

You have to install the BM drivers after installing Premiere if you want it to be seen inside Premiere. I have the USB 3 shuttle working fine inside Premiere CS6

As to the codecs, not everyone's system is fast enough to encode WMV or mp4, on the fly, and MOV is just a wrapper so it would then have to depend on what codec you are using inside the MOV wrapper on whether your system is fast enough to encode it on the fly. BM have stuck with uncompressed and MJpeg as the basic codecs as pretty much all systems should be able to cope with encoding to those 2 formats.

When inside Premiere you also get extra options for SD of either DV or DVCPro50, and for HD you get DVCProHD

Adam

Which drivers? From where do you install the Black Magic drivers? Are you talking specifically about the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro or generally windows machines?

( This was the other criticism of the software that I found. It was not clear from the CD ROM, which software had to be installed. There were a bunch of folder and we had to guess, which left a lot to be desired. )

I installed Premiere Pro CS 6 on the laptop before I had the Intensity Shuttle.

So other people's system may not be able cope with the performance requirements of on fly MOV or WMV codec, does mean that this option should not be offered to the customer.

Download the latest drivers from the BM support site as they will be newer than the ones on the disc.

I would say no, they shouldn't give you options that most peoples systems can't handle. WMV uses a lot of CPU power to encode in real-time, and mov is just a wrapper for QuickTime files so again you then have a whole multitude of different options to encode in to. BM decided to make their own capture software simple and easy to use with codecs that should work on every system and therefore cut down on the amount of support problems due to systems not being able to handle it.

If you want to capture in to other formats then use a 3rd party software such as Medialooks Direct take

I'd be surprised if your Lenovo can do decent WMV and MP4 in real-time, it's extremely underpowered for encoding into those formats, from what I can see it only uses a 2GHz dual core with hyper threading

I do not see any posts pending for you. Did you maybe not click on the submit button? I've admittedly made this mistake myself.

I just tested the Intensity Shuttle, at least for playout, on two different QM77 platforms running 64-bit Windows 7 and the latest Intel XHCI USB drivers (I tried a few different driver versions, made no difference). One was a Thinkpad T430s laptop, and the other was a custom build mini-ITX desktop (Jetway NF9G-QM77 motherboard). The two computers had the same successes and failures.

For playout using VLC, 720p59.94 mode worked fine if I set the power profile to High Performance (on the standard Balanced, there were many delayed frames). 1080i59.94 dropped a ton of frames and was unworkable. I suspect this is some mismatch in what the Blackmagic drivers expect and what the USB drivers provide in terms of a buffer, as 720p59.94 and 1080i59.94 are essentially the same average bandwidth, but 1080i59.94 is really 29.97 frames per second, with a single frame containing more data than a 720 frame.

Intensity Shuttle USB3

0 problems.

Just about to run out the door but when I'm back I'll format this to your liking; thought the information might be relevant to someone searching the thread :)

Hi, can you please give details about your laptop, and tell me if you have tested it with some software (i.e. premiere, avid,...).
I have a very similar notebook, N750JV, and i would like to try BMDI for video editing.

In the market for a new laptop and Shuttle compatibility wouldn't hurt.

We really need a new list for 2015.

With the latest drivers, the Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 works great with Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display. That's what I would recommend if you're looking for live video recording/streaming.

Agreed! Need a new list as none of the "approved" or "tested" laptops are available on the market anymore.

How about a new list for 2016? Anyone have any luck with UltraStudio SDI on the Microsoft Surface Book? It doesn't seem to be working, which is crazy because this computer has incredible specs overall.

I am using an Asus G751 to do a 2 camera stream. One BM into Thunderbolt and the other into USB 3.0. The Thunderbolt works flawless and never an issue. The USB is hit or miss sometimes working for hours on end with no issues and other times it goes black. I think its an Asus issue with the port being under powered. I am thinking of trying a powered hub to see if it helps out and will report back if it does.

I would think if you don't want to go Mac Pro with 2 Thunderbolts then you might be able to try some of the newer Windows laptops that have the Thunderbolt 3. You can get the adapter to go to Thunderbolt 1 and 2 so you can use to BM Thunderbolt capture devices like the Ultra Studios.

I believe you will soon see laptop computers in the next few years capable of supporting 3-4 cameras using Thunderbolt 3 and hopefully BM will make devices using that so we don't need adapters. I am curious if anyone has tried the USB Shuttle with the USB 3.1 ports as its backwards compatible but more powerful so maybe it would be stable.

In the past I used Asus G73 to stream using the USB 3.0 port with a shuttle. Then I got a Sager and used the shuttle on it and another camera through firewire. I also have found the best way to do a single camera setup is to get a Lenovo T430s with the Thunderbolt port and use the Ultra Studio, it works flawlessly.

The Atem works with the G751 as I tested it. I have tried 2 shuttles and 1 thunderbolt on the G751 and it worked but the 2nd shuttle would end up freezing up. Like I said the Asus USB is under powered I feel or something because I have issues at times running just one. I hope the hub helps and I also am turning off wifi, bluetooth and the webcam when I do this test.

I make sure that in the device manager I click on the properties for the usb hub then go into power management and uncheck both boxes because one will turn off the device to save power. Hope this helps someone because I have spent countless hours over the years messing with stuff and thousands of hours live streaming.

I use with specs :
- Motherboard : Z270-D3P
- CPU : i7 7700K
- RAM : 16GB
- VGA : Radeon R7700
Does motherboard work with Intensity Shutter USB 3.0 ? I just bought BMIS USB 3.0, but after 20s it stop working and run again in Media Express ? Maybe driver not compatible ?

It does not have the renesas/NEC USB3 chipset.. So no guarantees.!!

You might get it to work but you have to tool a lot with USB 3 drivers and stuff..

Or you might add a card with the NEC uPD720200 USB 3 chipset on it.. But i would have rather choosen for a Decklink card in a PC.. On a laptop a decklink card is out of the question.. But on a full blown pc a Decklink card is way more stable solution then USB. ;)

I have a Dell laptop (XPSL702X) with ACPI x64-based motherboard, Intel i7-2630QM and Renesas USB 3.0 controller. Is there any chance that the Blackmagix Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 will work with this or would I be throwing 199 euros away?
