Media player on the ATEM swticher

PostThu Mar 07, 2013 4:08 am

ATEM has 2 media pools, can these videos be imported in every format and frame-rate? will they play smoothly? Can I also add more then one media pool?

Regards John.

I believe that is incorrect(correct me if im wrong). If anyone has the answer to my question that will be great.

The media players have two sources, technically. One is the 'still image' pool, which I think holds 32 images. I believe that part can accept many different formats, such as TGA, JPG, and PNG.

The 'video' side of the media pool can hold image sequences, with alpha. Again, with images such as TGA, JPG, PNG. If you export from After Effects, you can export a TGA sequence that will import into the 'video' side of the media pool and be used as a stinger, a 'bug', or any number of things.

To my knowledge, video formats such as AVI, MOV, and MP4 cannot be imported into the media players.

The TVS only supports still images
I am sure BMD support can confirm this for you

It depends on the ATEM model. TVS really can't play videos, 1 ME and 2 ME can. But both with a maximum of 360 frames in 720p / 180 frames in 1080i as TGA Sequence. So the clips (together) have a maximum length of 12-24 seconds (in NTSC-regions). In PAL-regions a little bit more. So it it only for intros or outtros....

Thank you all for your help. I might run a program like easy-worship, to run videos and graphics. I seen a-lot of people doing this. If I use this method, will these video clips run smoothly on the switcher coming from easy-worship at any FPS or resolution?

Regards John.

You seriously can't do any roll-ins using the ATEM Television Studio, at all?

Why did I buy this thing?

You bought it because it was under $1000?
I mean if you want to do all of that stuff built in save the extra money and buy a tri-caster. For the price you can't beat it.

I am buying the ATEM switcher, and for what it can do, I think it's great for an affordable price. Aside from that does any have the answer to my second question?

You will need your computer to output the same resolution and framrate as your ATEM. As for playing smoothly, that will depend on your computer.

Did you not read the specs and manual before buying it?

But to answer your question, if you're a competent enough switcher, you can pull off a roll-in. Not saying it's easy, but it can be done. And btw, most people call that a Stinger.

Idea: When playing the clip in the downstream keyer while a cut or transition is running, you have a stinger. For a syncronized start of the clip and the transition / cut, use "JustMacros".

Sorry to thread jack, but is there a way to have the mediaplayer cycle through pictures? Create a slideshow.

Yep, JustMacros will pull it off. Or, just get your timing down, start the video on a DSK, and do a horizontal wipe at the right time. Going to need to use a luma key on the DSK though.

Anyone find a solution to this? Find a way to load the slideshow into the Media player?

Yes, I use PowerShell to export PowerPoint slides as images in correct size, then automate uploading them to the media pool. I then use a script to rotate the stills into the media players alternately so I can do transitions between them. I might turn the latter into a Windows utility for people.

You can also record a Macro to perform all the steps and load all the images, transition or cut between media players, set a pause between each still for the duration you want it to show.
