In various situations I've used HDMI inputs for cameras (either HDMI cameras or via SDI->HDMI converters), graphics fill/key signals (from Decklink Extreme 3D card with CasparCG), a media player device (Apacer AL460) and a computer (for Skype connection).
The only trouble is that HDMI is a much more diverse hardware specification than SDI so it's quite easy to get tripped up by non-conforming signals over HDMI.. Wrong frame size, RGB vs YUV, interlaced vs progressive, mismatched refresh rates. These things can be hard to diagnose in those situations.
