ATEM Production Studio 4K vs ATEM1

PostThu Apr 11, 2013 4:21 pm

Hi guys

Just saw the new ATEM Production Studio 4K. Can anyone explain to me how is this different from the ATEM1 other than 4K?

A bunch of things. No component input. Not so many Aux outputs (3 on 1/ME vs 1 on 4K). No DVE (can't re-size inputs etc). USB2.0 only (vs 1/ME USB 3.0). So... no option to capture video via USB (in HD mode.. 4K would never "fit" down USB3 anyway).

With no DVE that means it cannot do picture in picture (according to BM support)

- No timecode. In a unit that they advertise for live concerts and sports productions..
- No Component output (yes I do use it)
- No Downconverter SDI and Composite

As liam says no capture option by USB.. (USB only for firmware upgrades)

Pro's:

- 4K and UltraHD
- Seems running cool? I don't see a huge heatsink.
- Small Only 1 HE
- Buttons on the front for selecting your Aux output. (pity you can't switch your main output with this)

That could be handy when setting up at location. Put some test screen or input on the outputs.. But okee.. Maybe software enabled? Who knows..

By the Way..

Consider that it is nice to have a 4K enabled mixer.. But also remember that if you put it into 4K resolution. ALL your inputs must be that 4K..

Which directly results into buying a lot of 4K gear. And have you ever had a job that your LED screen had a higher native resolution of 1920x1080??

The last LED screen I had to connect to was native 800x600 Then i'm so happy with my downscaled output on my 1M/E

Hi,

I don't understand this product. Most consumer or pro consumer update to Full HD format (3D for someone) recently ...
So 4K is too early !!

Well! My only hope for the 4k model was that it would have DVE. Realllly all I need is the TVS with the ability to do picture in picture. We record a lot of tech talks and it would be oh so nice to have the slides on screen. :( shucks I dun wanna drop 5 grand on the 1 M/E yet.

5 grand for a 1 M/E?? The Control panel costs 5 grand ;) The Atem 1 just half of that

ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher 1 M/E production switcher with 8 inputs, DVE, 9 layers for Mac and PC. $2,495

ATEM Production Studio 4K
The world's first Ultra HD 4K live production switcher! Features 6G-SDI in SD, HD and Ultra HD 4K! $1,995

It is only 500 dollars more then the 4K version..... ;)

Wooops. I've obviously been mixing up the 2 M/E price. That's doable but still just wait limited inputs with DVE :D Thanks for the correction.

If you need a TV Studio but 6 inputs are not enough, just forget all about 4K and take it as a 8 input TVS...
