Decklink Quad HDMI Recorder won't recognize GoPro Hero 5

Hi,

I recently bought Decklink Quad HDMI Recorder. I tried to hook it up with my GoPro Hero 5 but no matter what I try, it won't recognize the input signal.

Actually, the capture card has been problematic since the beginning. It used to fail to recognize 4k input from my GH4 camera. It worked flawlessly below 1080p but 4k. I solved the problem while I was messing around with a chip EDID emulator. I think I fried the input port or something.

Anyway, when I tested GoPro with Ultrastudio Mini Recorder, it successfully detected the camera without the emulator. GoPro doesn't even show anything on the front screen when it's connected to Quad HDMI Recorder. It's pretty weird to me. Because It supposed to show the icon when it's sending HDMI signal to an external device.

Anybody has any idea for this? Thank you.

Same problem here; my Hero 5 works fine with everything up to 4K output (wide only, of course) with other capture cards and even the Elgato Cam Link 4K, but will not properly power on when connected to the DeckLink Quad HDMI.

Luckily this was only a problem for me during testing - in normal use I send the output of the Hero 5 through an HDMI splitter to a small display and the DeckLink Quad HDMI. Doing this sidesteps the problem completely, but it's odd that the issue exists.

Update : Desktop Video 11.2 update didn't fix the problem. :(

This thread is the only thread I've found that solved the problem - thanks to roobarb!

I have a little more detail on this fix that worked for me. I have 2 GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras that I was trying to use with a:

Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder PCIe Card

After failing a number of times, I came here and saw just an offchance blurb about roobarb getting it to work using an HDMI splitter.

I am using this HDMI Splitter (YMMV):

(can't post a link, so this is what the title on Amazon is):
4K HDMI Splitter 1 in 2 Out by OREI - Ultra HD @ 30 Hz 1x2 Ver. 1.4 HDCP, Power HDMI Supports 3D Full HD 1080P for Xbox, PS4 PS3 Fire Stick Blu Ray Apple TV HDTV - Adapter Included

overview of setup:
Micro HDMI cable from GoPro runs to IN on HDMI Splitter and a regular HDMI cable from one of the 2 outs runs to the capture card.

1. PC is on (I have the BlackMagic Desktop Video Setup displayed to the corresponding video input I'm trying to enable)

2. GoPro is turned off and the HDMI Micro is not plugged in at this point.

3. turn on GoPro

4. Plug in HDMI Micro to GoPro - the back of the GoPro will go dark

5. you'll see on the front of the GoPro display screen an image of a projector or TV appear - this means the link or "bridge" is working.

6. You should see on the Desktop Video Setup display, below video input, the GoPro settings will appear - meaning that the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder PCIe Card is reading the GoPro - and you should be all set.

Hope that was helpful!

My Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder Capture Card sometimes will, often times will not, detect Security Cameras & Surveillance Equipment. I can see the cameras set up nicely in single-BM recorders, but not in my 4Quad recorder.

Anybody with the same experience and a successful outcome?
