Can't "Delete" media - Keeps coming back!

PostWed Apr 16, 2025 5:45 pm

First edit in 20: Minding my own business and trying to delete clips from the media pool. The delete key gets rid of the clip as usual, only to return about 20 seconds later. The only thing that will get rid of the clip is the "Permanently Delete" command, which is a multi-step dialog. (Too time-consuming... And leaves a "Media-offline" icon that has to be deleted. )

Happens on the Media, Cut, and Edit pages.

Am I doing something wrong here? Never had any deletion issues in 19 or below.

Any help would save considerable time.

TIA

Oh geez - permanently delete removes your source files from the disk. I hope you really mean that.

For most people: DON’T use the permanently delete command as you’ll have to restore your media from backups - assuming you’ve made backups that is.

How about making a screen recording that shows what is happening. I have NEVER heard of this issue with Resolve. I think you may be doing something wrong, or there is something really wrong with your Resolve installation.

To me this sounds like Resolve is restoring the previous version for some reason. Like if the project is shared and it thinks you’ve got an old version of the Timeline.

Might you be using a cloud project? Are there any other edits you do that get undone?

Hard to imagine what you might be “doing wrong” that would cause this - other than unwittingly doing an Undo.

I was wondering if the bin in question has been setup for the automatic update (I can't recall the term as I have never used this relatively new feature) - where the bin is updated as new files are added to the underlying file system folder.

I want to remove "Bad takes" from the media pool to minimize "Visual confusion." A permanent delete is a bit extreme, but if it's not usable, why take up hard drive space?

I suspect you are correct. The bin is obviously "Re-sycing" the media. I just don't know what has changed. I have never had a problem with removing clips from the media pool with a simple "Delete key" command.

I don't even have a "Cloud" account, so I don't think that is the issue, but thanks for the reply. The issue seems to be happening with any projects updated to V20.

Let me see what I can do. I have not set up OBS for the new monitor yet. Looks like today is the day to go down that rabbit hole...

As far as doing something wrong, I have not changed my editing workflow. DR 20 behaves differently than what I am used to.

Like I said, a normal "delete" key command removes the clip from the media pool, but leaves the file on the drive. The bin must be resyncing the media.

Another issue? Or the same issue manifested differently?

Looks fine to me....

JK

OK - is it possible that the parent folder was setup to dynamically resync the media - it's an option that you can setup, I've just never used it (it was introduced relatively recently). Have you ever used the feature I'm referring to?

Btw - what you demonstrated in you videos caused my to pour a double, just so you know - you're a bad influence (I guess I have a problem when I start blaming others for my bad decisions, lol).

Cheers

Clearly, it is resyncing the media, but I did not do anything that I know of to activate that feature. Nor do I even know how to do such a thing. (If I did, I would just undo it.) :D

As far as being a "bad influence" goes, my wife tells me that regularly! btw, Menudo is great for hangovers.

Thanks for taking a look.

Follow up: Never did find a resolution to the issue.

Tried re-installing V20 - No progress.

Rolled back to 19.1.4

Guess I'll just have to wait for it to get out of Beta. Depth map 2.0 will have to wait. :D

Yea this one got me too. I found the answer though, on the media page if you right click the offending bin there is an option "automatically resync media files". if it is not checked then check the next bin level up.
Its a great feature if you know its there. I know now

The important question is did either of you set this "auto-resync checkmark" yourselves (accidently or otherwise) or did Resolve do this automatically when you created a new project or added media folders ?

Doesn't seem to happen here, but there may be a bug.

I did nothing but install V20 and allow it to update the database.

Update: ADMINS - This post should be deleted, and I don't seem to be able to do so.

After installing Beta 2 and finding that the "Auto-sync" feature was active for that folder, I don't think this is a "Bug" and I most likely checked the box accidentally.

Thanks to all who helped.

I hope it’s not deleted as it may be useful as a search result to anyone who has this problem.
