DaVinci Resolve 20 Crashing During Loading

PostSat Apr 26, 2025 4:49 pm

I've been using the new beta to work on a project for a friend - during it I had a number of bluescreens/crashes while using RTX Upscaling. I have 5090 - so idk if it's just generally unstable because it's new.

That being said, after completing the project (thank god) I have a new issue where I can't even open the application. The loading screen comes up, vanishes and then nothing. The .exe runs in task manager but no icon comes on the desktop and obviously Resolve doesn't show up.

The app stays there forever always with 588.6MB of ram being used. I need to end task to get it to close.

Above link contains the logs from DaVinci + DXDiag.

I tried reinstalling the app, reinstalling the drivers for both my AMD onboard (9800X3D) and my 5090 to no avail. I haven't tried v19 yet.

I was wonder if there's a clean install method? I'm not getting a prompt for serial key after reinstall which makes me think theres stuff being left behind.

Thanks.

Figured it out - was a Topaz Plugin causing the crash. Uninstalling Topaz Video fixed it.

I think there should be some kind of system to check if a plugin is causing an issue and at least warning that the plugin is causing the failure (if there's not already one I'm not aware of).

Problem is fixed in beta 3.
