Consolidating Media Bug Crash (v20 Beta 2)

PostWed Apr 23, 2025 3:26 am

BMD Technical Support and Development Team,

I am experiencing DVR Studio Public Beta 20 Beta 2 crashing every time I attempt the Consolidating Media workflow. Thank you for looking into this issue.

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1) Create a Timeline (ie: "Lossless Cut Test") with three clips, from two HEVC 1080p MP4 clips (each clip is under 104MB) with a total duration of fewer than 20 seconds.
2) Go to File > Media Management.... Set Destination to /Users/<user>/Desktop
3a) Option #1 Select "Timelines" Tab. Select the "Copy" Option. In the Copy section, select "Used media and trim keeping 30 frame handle".
3b) Option # 2 Select the 3 clips on the "Lossless Cut Test" Timeline. Select "Clips" Tab. Select the "Copy" Option. Toggle the Timelines "Lossless Cut Test" checkbox. In the Copy section, select "Used media and trim keeping 30 frame handle".
4) Toggle the "Use project name subfolder"
4) Click Start. Davinci Resolve application immediately crashes.

System Tested: MacOS v15.4.1 M2 Max. Diagnostic logs attached

You should post the requisite Logs and such, detailed in the FAQ.

Media Management crash in v20 Beta 2 & 3

I’m experiencing a crash in both v20 Beta 2 and v20 Beta 3 of DaVinci Resolve on the following systems:

iMac (Intel) – macOS 14.6.1
iMac (Intel) – macOS 14.7.5
Windows 11 PC

The crash occurs when I try to consolidate timelines containing selected BRAW clips to another drive using this workflow: Media Management → Copy timeline → Used media and trim (with 0-frame handles).

The application crashes abruptly during the operation — without any error code or warning. The same AAF timelines and BRAW media are involved in each case.

Notably, this exact workflow functions correctly in Resolve Studio 19 on a MacBook Pro (M1 Pro, macOS 15.3.2) and on the Intel iMac from above using Studio 19. And the crashes also happen on the Windows PC when using Resolve Studio 19 (workflow worked fine on the same PC in Studio 18)...

As a workaround, what happens if you do Media Management with Copy Used Media and NO trims? That may at least get you by, if this is a continued stumbling block.

I have only done Trim Media with 1-second handles, but I have only done that on versions prior to 20.

Today, I tested the trim functionality in DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 Beta 4 and encountered the same crash behavior as before.

I also conducted further tests on the Intel iMac using the same BRAW media files from previous tests, as well as some additional BRAW footage:

- "Copy Used Media" without trimming works as expected.
- Trimming with different frame handles (1, 0, 5) still results in the same crash as described and documented before.

Update: Further testing shows that the described crash still occurs in the non-beta version of Studio 20. However, it appears to be related specifically to BRAW files only...
