"Open Timeline with Source Viewer" in single view mode

PostTue Apr 08, 2025 8:27 am

You can't use "Open Timeline with Source Viewer" in single viewer mode. As soon as you enter single view mode, it exits "Open Timeline with Source Viewer" mode.

I would rather not have to use this mode at all but my previous workflow does not work in Resolve 20. My previous workflow was like this:

  • 1. Open a timeline in the timeline monitor.
  • 2. Open a timeline in the source monitor.
  • 3. Make a selection in the timeline monitor.
  • 4. hit alt-h which is macro that performed three functions:
    • 1. swapped source and timeline
    • 2. Insert and of timeline
    • 3. swapped source and timeline.

This is a very simple workflow. I made a selection, hit Alt-h, and waited half a second for it to paste to the end of the other timeline. Then repeat. All of this I did in single viewer mode because I'm on a laptop.

Release 20 seems to have removed 'swap source and timeline', so I can no longer use this method. I therefore tried to duplicate it with the new "Open Timeline with Source Viewer". But that seems to work only in dual-screen mode.

This is a real problem for me and probably enough to go back to R19. The simplest fix would be to reinstate 'swap source and timeline'. Another fix would be to not exit "Open Timeline with Source Viewer" mode when switching to single viewer mode.

I replied in your other post, but "toggle source timeline" works similar to the old "swap timeline and source" or whatever the command is that no longer exists. I use a very similar workflow to you and find it very buggy now, unfortunately, though still workable enough until they fix it. Very clever use of maco though! I did all with shortcuts....

Thanks a lot. That seems to be just what I'm looking for.

EDIT: It still doesn't seem to work as it should in single view mode. It switches the timelines in the timeline stack, but the viewer doesn't display the newly selected timeline.

Regarding the new Source Timeline Mode the root of the problem seems to be that it exits Source Timeline Mode as soon as you switch to single view mode. It displays the exit in the history.

Hello,

Here DVR 19.4

I have a question that it is not totally related to your post but kind of connected.

In single viewer mode, when I add markers in the source viewer and enter that marker it automatically switch to TL viewer (like if I had press Q but I didn't).

I still don't know if this is a bug or if there is an option to fix this?

Thanks
