Resolve 20 Ease In & Out Problem!

PostWed Apr 23, 2025 8:08 pm

I always find it hard to get smooth ease-in and out in Resolve. With the introduction of the new graph editor, I was hoping it will make it much easier but I am still not getting the results I am want:

I can do this easily with Vegas Pro but I need to learn how to do it in Resolve. So any idea what I am doing wrong?

I saw this today myself. Adjust those white handles to taste.

I already tried that and I am not getting the supposed result of ease in and ease out. The logo should start moving slowly and accelerating in the start and deaccelerates at the end until it stop, but this is not happening!

It seems to work for us here. Here's a screenshot showing the curve.

If you can post a DRA, we can check it out, just a simple 1 clip project.

As I also wrote in another post:
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=218938
this curve is too extreme.
Please use cubic or quadratic curve for easing.

I created a test project and did the ease in and out and it works perfectly fine! How? I don't know!

For me, the curve in 20.0B2 Build 27 is still too extreme.
It looks like the curve is exponential instead of quadratic / cubic.

Update:
It works fine in new projects, but it does not work in projects created in previous versions.

Is it possible to see the desired result in Vegas Pro? It is very difficult to understand what you want to do.

Now that makes perfect sense .. it did not work with my project which was created with Resolve 19, but it worked with the test project which I created with Resolve 20.

So clearly a bug in Resolve 20 with regards to projects not created with V20.

I created this test showing the correct ease in & out with project created in Resolve 20, and showing the strange result with project created in Resolve 19. The desired result is like the one created in V20:

Can confirm this behavior. I had this exact problem yesterday while testing version 20 on my new machine. I also couldn't work with the keyframes themselves using the white handles.

On a new project created in version 20, easing works perfectly—same with the white handles

Anyone who wants to continue working on their older projects using version 20 of Resolve right now, be warned...

We saw a similar scenario with the Film Look Creator in version 19. The bug fix required the user to start over with the effect and apply it from scratch.

I hope that will not be the case here and that BMD will manage to fix it.
