Folder tracks?

PostSun Jan 07, 2024 12:38 pm

Does something like Nuendo / PT folder tracks exist in Fairlight?. Seems like a nice organizational tool to be able to show/hide mute/solo by folders of tracks.

For those who have no ideas what that is, can you elaborate?

It's an extra organizational folder that can contain other tracks.
In DAWs you can use it to have something like

Drums
-------- Kick-track
-------- Snare-track
-------- Hi-hat-track
-------- Toms-track

Clicking 'drums' will collapse and expand the underlying tracks.

In Resolve this could probably work for different-language voice-overs etc

Huge +1 for Folder Tracks!

I'll add that in addition to organizing, include the option to route audio through the parent track as well and treat the parent track like a mixbus for the child tracks. This is how Folder Tracks are commonly used in DAWs.

And I've mentioned this in other threads, but I'll do it again here... I would also love to have Folder Tracks for video. My former NLE (Vegas Pro) had folder tracks for video where you could add effects to the parent track and they would be applied to all of the child tracks inside the parent. For this one, Resolve would have to add the ability to add video effects at the track level, which would be awesome! In addition, this could also be used as a way to limit the scope of Adjustment Clips by providing an option in the Inspector to only affect tracks inside of the Folder Track instead of the entire project. This would make Adjustment Clips so much more flexible.

There many uses for Folder Tracks, I really hope this gets added.

Unfortunately, no, Fairlight doesn't have something like Folder Tracks.

You can group tracks together in the Index panel, but this isn't really a visual grouping system, it more just gangs specific adjustments across different tracks like fader, solo / mute, automation, clip selection etc.

However, you can toggle the visibility of individual tracks in the Index panel if you want to visually clean up your timeline. This is probably the closest thing to "collapsing" a folder track that we have.
