Meet filmmakers, film something, come join us (London)

PostWed Jan 01, 2014 9:04 pm

Hi,

I run weekly workshop sessions called "Blur the Line" in London. We practise with actors, shooting narrative footage that is filmed on location (or green screened), edited and graded so that the end result looks no different than a real production. We do it that way because, with that aspiration in mind, quality goes through the roof and you learn so much more that way.

We will be filming on a BMCC MFT, with the latest BMCC Metabones Speed Booster, with lenses such as the Sigma 18-35mm, EVFs. Plus we have dolly tracks etc. We are using the latest IKAN LED lights and have plenty of softboxes and flags etc. etc.

So if you are itching to film a narrative scene, to get some solid practise then come join in. The workshops are free. I think it's an unbelievable opportunity to get really good at your art, and hone your skills. You get the footage to edit and grade. I edit and grade as well so you get the finished scene too.

DPs, camermen, lighting and crew. If interested PM me or email workshop*at*nonmultiplexcinema.com

Happy New Year,
Jules

The next one is on 7th January 6.30pm in Central London. We have a restaurant bar area for this one. What follows are the storyboards for the scene to shoot...

Hi,

We now have someone who's got great experience with lighting and bringing his Fresnel lights to add to the mix.

Still outstanding a DP camera operator.

Jules

P.S. We're raising the bar a little. The whole sequence (part II to be shot later) is going to be made into a short film in its own right.

Nice storyboard.

Be carefully with the axis,Jude jumps right to left and vice versa many times:
4 to 5.
19 to 20 to 21.
23 to 24.
25 to 27.

The barman coming from right and the next shot is on left.

A good trick to avoid these "axis jumps" is split the screen in the middle. The character always will be in his position,no matter where you put the camera.

Camera moves (travelling,dolly...) also can be a good choice to change the axis.

Have fun.

Cheers Roberto for the advice. Will definitely correct the issues.

Proving storyboards are useful, even for a bar scene.

I use FrameForge Previz Studio 3. I got the whole flight control gizmo too that makes navigating around very easy.

Don't only use this, I also draw sketchy stuff. No longer pencil though, I use a tablet into a paint package.
