Film Look Creator > Split Tone > preserve neautrals

PostThu Sep 05, 2024 3:24 pm

Hi,
Would it be possible to add an option, like a slider, in the Film Look Creator under Split Tone to preserve neutrals?
Thanks.

+1

A saturation mask as a slider would be nice, for example a bell curve on the HSL saturation channel to gradually mask out low saturation pixels.

I would mention that @Jason Bowdach has an in-depth 25-minute tutorial on Film Look Creator in this week's MixingLight insights:

https://mixinglight.com/color-grading-t ... -workflow/

Note this is a pay site, but I think the cost is absolutely worth the value for Resolve users.

Yes, I know. It's a great insight. And a good example of why a 'preserve neutrals' option is needed, hence my suggestion.

I would throw in a plug for Cullen Kelly, since his new Contour plug-in has a split-tone feature that specifically will keep middle gray neutral.

Contour is not cheap, but it will do what you're asking for. The Resolve DCTLs and plug-ins market is very crowded these days, and there's a lot of interesting stuff going on right now.

BMD appears to be listening to user feedback and I'm positive they will implement such a feature in the Film Look Creator.
