File copy and syncing on MacOS

PostTue Dec 03, 2024 4:38 am

I have used FreeFileSync and TerraCopy on Windows. But on Mac, there’s not FFS and TerraCopy is mediocre and no longer free. What are you using to copy and syncing large files and folders between your external media and working storage that’s on MacOS that is used with Resolve?

For Mac, you might want to check out ChronoSync or Carbon Copy Cloner. Both are reliable for file copying and syncing large datasets. Rsync via the terminal is also a great option if you’re okay with a command-line tool, it’s fast and flexible.

If you need sync actions over both LAN and the Internet, Syncthing is very smooth and runs in the background.

You can try Macpaw. It's not a bad tool.

I've settled on rsync. It's command-line, but super powerful and reliable. Takes a little getting used to, but once you learn the basics, it's way better than anything with a GUI for speed and safety.

I’ve been using rsync on macOS for syncing large files, it’s built into the system and works great for my needs, especially with Resolve. If you prefer a GUI, you can try ChronoSync; it’s not free, but it’s very reliable for file syncing and backups.

I’m familiar with rsync in my days working on the IBM AIX OS but didn’t know it’s part of macOS. I will give it a try, and I assume it’s via the Terminal app and bash shell ($). Thanks.

For large file copying and syncing on macOS, I recommend using rsync (built into macOS) for its reliability and flexibility. It's great for syncing and copying large files and folders. You can also consider ChronoSync, which offers a more user-friendly interface and additional features compared to FreeFileSync. Both work well with external media and storage setups like yours, and integrate smoothly with Resolve.
