@Angelica:

Your config.dat and config.dat.bak files are bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\18177\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Delete the config.dat.bak file.

Now Resolve should start.

It will recreate the config files with the default starting info. If you had any Preferences modifications made, be sure to reapply those after starting.

Hi, I am very new to this just wanted to make my footage look nice, looked on couple youtube videos, and got inspired. Downloaded the davinci resolve multiple times and I dont have a control panel. When I checked off the control panel the control panel didnt open (probably because I dont have one) but when I tried reinstalling it there is no davinci resolve app like everyone else has. Im on a Windows 11 Pro 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. Not sure what I am supposed to do

If you installed Resolve as a non-Admin user, then you won't see DaVinci Resolve listed in the programs area in the Blackmagic Design folder.

Ideally, install Resolve and run it as a Admin user.

But if you don't want to do that, then open Finder, navigate to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Scroll down and right click Resolve and then select Pin to Start, and/or Pin to Taskbar, and launch it that way.

Hi, thanks I pinned the file to start, and tried oppening it but it opens the file that show audio, control, etc... Not opening the app. Anything that you need to know about my computer? I am not the admin on the computer but I do have the password so I can run programs as admin. I have tried to run it as admin but It always ended in it wanting me to get the control panel..

@Dani: If you open File Explorer and go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

And then double click Resolve, or right click it and select Open, does that launch Resolve?

@Abitha: Open the Windows System Information app, then select its File - Save menu. That will save a file with a .NFO extension.

After creating that file, exit System Information, then double click that .NFO file and ensure it opens in the System Information app.

With File Explorer in the View - Details mode, this is what you should right click on. You may not see the .exe as your File Explorer settings are likely hiding extensions:

Then please send the following information:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

It's not getting far enough to generate any Resolve logs or config files.

In the NFO file, I see errors related to the DaVinci Resolve Control Panels app.

So the first thing to do is open the Windows "Add or remove programs" Control Panel, select the DaVinci Resolve Control Panels app and then select Uninstall.

Then see what happens. If Resolve still doesn't launch after doing that, then please send another Resolve log and NFO file.

In File Explorer, do you have this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Control Panels\Setup Utility

If you do, then the control panels app is installed. And it should appear in the "Add or remove programs" list, even for a non-Admin user.

If you don't have that folder, then I can't explain why you have errors in the NFO system error list referring to the control panels app.

Hi Dwain,

Used DaVinci 19.1.3 yesterday, came to my computer today and it wouldn't open. I watched Scott Fitcher's YT video on this issue, tried a whole load of the solutions with no joy...updated my video drivers, no port conflicts etc

I've uninstalled, reinstalled 19.1.4 and still the same issue - Davinci opens to the project screen and then just stops responding...

I attach my log zip...hoping you can help!

@Simon Deeming: Please provide the following:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Your NFO file is corrupt and won't open. It would have been very helpful to have a working file. Try making it again. And then make sure that if you double click it, it opens in the System Information app.

The Resolve GPU detect process is crashing at Resolve start up.

The Resolve log has a couple of Window .dmp files. And those show that the nvcuda64.dll file is causing the crash.

But the working Resolve logs show that you had an AMD RX 7700 XT GPU installed.

What changed on the system between February 13 when it was last working and when it stopped working? Did you change the GPU?

If you still have the RX 7700 XT still installed, there shouldn't be NVIDIA Cuda related drivers installed. So you could make those go away. The DDU app might help with that.

If there was a working NFO, I could tell you the exact path of the nvcuda64.dll that's causing the crash, and perhaps just renaming that would solve the startup issue.

Hi.
I can see that your NVIDIA driver is outdated.
Begin with an update there.
And a 1050 card might be a bit weak for Resolve 20.

Hi, I am on a similar problem. I already tried updating drivers, reinstalling Davinci Resolve Studio 18 to 19. Tried 20 as well and same problem.

It stops at the Loading screen "Checking Licenses" usually. Sometimes at Plugins, Sometimes at Codecs depending on what I try. Then it just closes and sometimes it stays in the Task Manager.

I updated my drivers for GPU, from Intel and NVIDIA. Disabled them and tried again.

What can I do? Adding my drive log.

Your Topaz OFX plugin is crashing Resolve.

To verify that's the issue, do the following:

Disable 3rd party OFX Plugins in Resolve for Windows

If 3rd party OFX plugins are causing Resolve not to start, do the following to troubleshoot:

In File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX

In the OFX folder is a folder called Plugins

Rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.orig

Now Resolve should start.

In the Plugins folder will be folder for each OFX package you've installed. Move those out of the Plugins folder one at a time, to figure out which is causing the issue with Resolve.

Of course, change Plugins.orig back to Plugins when you do that.

Found the culprit. "Topaz Video AIframeinterpolation.ofx" file in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins.orig - Copy\Topaz Video AIframeinterpolation.ofx.bundle\Contents\Win64" causes all versions of DaVinci Resolve to fail to start without any errors.

Dwaine,

The problem of Resolve not getting past the splash screen seems to be quite common, my own version died today, I have posted on this forum but I haven't had a chance to upload any logs etc. In my case it (Studio) was working, I closed it, moved some files in a project, when I opened it and tried to relink the media the program hung and didn't respond. Thereafter I'm stuck at the splash screen.I followed pretty much every suggestion in this forum to resolve the issue, multiple deletions, and re-installations. I can't understand why after deleting every thing associated withe Blackmagic/Davinci Resolve except the registry entry's I am currently unable to install a working copy of the software. Hopefully somebody will respond to my post (earlier today) and I will then provide some logs etc.

You have 3 posts about various things.

Is this post the current state of things? viewtopic.php?f=21&t=219729&p=1139269#p1139269

You mention you haven't provided any logs. Need those to assist. Specifically need the following:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

Hi Dwaine,

Hopefully you can get these files, and they mean something to you..

System Information - https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6zbvig2l ... 46nzx&dl=0

Davinci Resolve Log - https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7hqlakm9 ... c1syg&dl=0

Where am I at with Resolve, I left the Splash Screen over night, this morning Resolve had loaded and was usable as a video editor. I tried to load the OMO PROMO demo, all went well until I attempted to re-link the media using the "Locate" button. The app hung, I exited using task manager. Tried again, it got to the splash screen loading project settings, I left it for a long time the app loaded. Tried to repeat the exercise using the "Locate" button again, waited for a long time file manager eventually loaded and I selected the demo files and they were re-linked. The app seemed to run well. Following some forum advice I changed a setting in Preferences, removed a tick in the line with the file location. Bang, program hung again, waited, task manager to kill, tried to reload. The program is now stuck at "Loading Media Page".

Killed the app with task manager, I renamed the Preferences directory in AppData, tried to load Resolve again, stuck at the splash screen "Loading Project Settings".

This rambling so my apologies. I am finding the Resolve experience a bit of a challenge, and that's before I get to making a video..

Nothing helpful in the logs. Looks like it just hung for some reason, but that reason is not obvious.

The NFO is a bit strange. If you open System Information, and look at Components - Storage - Drives, do you see any drives listed? That area is empty in your NFO file. Though the Disks area shows various things. I should see at least a C: drive there and based in the Disks stuff, probably multiple drives.

I also would have expected some large .dmp files to come across in the Resolve diagnostics log. You didn't delete any of those, did you?

The annoying thing about this is that Resolve ran perfectly until it didn't.. I will have another look at the System Information.

Hi Dwaine,

Thinking about Resolve DMP files. I think Resolve never actually crashed, hence no DMP files. I always bailed on the loading process because it was taking a very long time. I think even old style mainframes loaded quicker than my Resolve..

Most likely something did change in between.

Hi Dwaine, has been using Davinci Resolve for quite a few years, all the while it was all fine until recently, after about few weeks since last opened Resolve, when I open Resolve, it displayed the startup windows and closed by itself about 3 secs later. Here are the link to my NFO and log files. Thanks.

Take a look at this post from Dwaine - it might be worth removing the Topaz.

Petter is correct.

Resolve 19.4 crashes at opening. I always reply "send" to send an error report to BlackMagic.

At first, the error was intermittent, but when it became permanent, I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Blackmagic suite. This did not resolve the problem.

(1) DxDiag text.. was not allowed..
(2) Screenshots of the System
(3) Screenshot of the error message from Resolve 19.4

Screen shots are not helpful. Please provide the following:

I couldn't figure out why DVR 19 suddenly wouldn't open. Yes, it was the Topaz plugins. Thank you for this update.

I sent an email to Topaz Labs informing them that they need to do a better job of testing. (As if they don't already know that.)
