viltrox speedbooster for pocket 4k plus Lumix G 1:1.7/20

PostThu Apr 10, 2025 7:52 am

Hi,

I know there are some threads about speedboosters and products for the pocket 4k but I want to be sure to get the right model for my camera and my lense. Some time back I bought one that fit the camera and not the lense I think.

I have the pocket 4K and Lumix G 1:1.7/20 lens. I want to know which Viltrox model will work. I know Viltrox is not as good as metabones but I can't afford metabones.

Thanks!
Javi

Hi Javier,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:
- the Lumix G 20mm/f1.7 is a m43 mount lens
- the BMPCC4K is a m43 mount camera

If this is the case - you do not need any adapter - just attach the lens to the camera and go shooting...

Hi,

Well yes I've been using this lens but what I wanted by using the speedbooster was a wider angle (like aps-c), to get more in the shot without having to backup so far with the 4/3 lense.

Are you saying that speedboosters are only used to combine a different lens not compatible with my blackmagic mount?

My goal is just to get more in the frame at a closer distance, I hate having to have so much room to get everything into a shot. I thought a viltrox adapter was the cheapest way to achieve this.

Is there a better solution?

Thanks!

Ahhh... so you will need something like this, but reversed:

To reduce the focal length from 20mm to, let's say 12mm, right? I am not a physicist, but I do not think this is possible...

Focal Length Reduction:
Speed Boosters compress the image circle projected by the lens, effectively reducing the focal length. This means the lens will appear wider, and the field of view will be broader on the smaller sensor.

Is there is something I'm not understanding correctly about what a speedbooster does?

Edit: I think I understand now. I need to use a speedbooster with a different lens, not a microfourthird, it has to be a lens for a bigger senser.

You need a lens with a longer flange distance. A micro four thirds lens fits on a micro four thirds camera. An ef mount lens fits on a canon camera by design.

The flange distance, the distance between the lens mount and the film plane,(because it was designed for film cameras) had an additional mirrorbox.

There is enough space between an ef lens mount or an Nikon f mount lens to put a glass assembly such as a speed booster or a focal reducer. hope this helps

Got it, thanks. I'm looking for efs to micro four thirds, for the lens I have on my canon 70d. All I can find is EF to micro four thirds.

Cheers

Javier,

Just a friendly reminder - next time you ask a question please try to provide as much information as possible. You understand that only now we came to know that you own a Canon 70D with some lenses for the system and you MIGHT want to use the same lenses with the BMPCC4K...

Well i didn't have any intention of using my canon lens. When I later understood that to use the speedbooster I needed a lense of a bigger frame camera I thought my only cheap solution was using my canon lens so i looked for a EPS lense to micro four thirds mount.
