How to playback 1.5x faster?

PostMon Nov 07, 2022 3:59 pm

Dear all, i have difficulties while playback.
I need to make faster playback in edit page.
Using L keyboard then press L keyboard again makes 2x faster ( i think).
Pressing shift+L, then L again, also makes 2x faster.
2x is really fast for me so i can not hear the speaker when he speak.
Is it possible to make it 1.5 faster?
Thanks.

While playing back, SHIFT + K (hold SHIFT, tap K) will halve the current speed so you can playback at 0.5x if you start at realtime. Not exactly what you are asking for but thought you might be interested. I will often tap L a couple of times and then want to back it down again (SHIFT + tap K).

Steve, Shift + L will be 2x faster, SHIFT + K will back to 1x faster (2x faster is really so fast for me)
Tap L will play with current speed then pressing SHIFT + K will be 0.5x faster

Get the Speed Editor then. I don't know of another way.

The Speed Editor does not enable 1.5x playback speed.

Thanks for that, I haven't noticed that - I've found the shuttle to be too clunky to use effectively, so it having this functionality makes it more useful to me.

You can also try the following workaround:

1. Put the clips inside a compound clip
2. Set the compound speed to 150% and enable the Ripple Timeline checkbox
3. Cut the unwanted parts
4. Once you finish select the first compound clip, set speed to 100% and enable the Ripple Timeline checkbox
5. Copy the first compound clip
6. Select the rest of the compounds -> Paste Attributes, enable the Retime Effects and Ripple Sequence checkboxes and click Apply
7. Select all the compounds -> Decompose in Place

I totally understand you. I used speed 1.5 in Final Cut Pro 7. DaVinci does not have this speed, but it can be set in Project Settings/Master Settings/Playback frame rate. It's a bit inconvenient, but hopefully it will help.

This has been a long standing feature request which Blackmagic gracefully ignores.
I have made a post about this 3 YEARS ago and there has been absolutely no movement whatsoever.

I still can't switch to resolve because this is missing and I am not going to accept that.

Unfortunately there’s already a very long list of bugs/missing features that don’t get addressed. As that list grows it becomes less and less attractive to address it.

This is a common “software debt” issue for many companies and it takes a specific commitment to address it. Such a commitment flies in the face of marketing which usually has a lot more power.

I think the real issue is even a company as large as Blackmagic only has so many resources, and they're busy around the clock addressing catastrophic issues, rather than going back and adding a requested feature from 5-10-15 years ago.

I agree, I would love keyboard playback speed increases in .5X increments, and I bet it's doable. But they have a long list to get to first.

I haven't sat down at the console to see if the jog/shuttle knob does 1.5X or not, but I think it's just 1X, 2X, 3X and so on, in each direction. I just got used to it, so it's not a big deal to me. There are bigger deals that do bother me.

At a guesstimated rate of about 20 feature/enhancement request posts a day ... and a guesstimated rate of 100 of those requests getting actioned per year... there's just a 1 in 73 chance of any given request getting actioned. If this lack of agency in directing BMDs development resources is something you're not going to accept, so be it.

I came to bump this. I have to edit 80 hours of gameplay. 2X is too slow, 4x is impossible to understand the voice. I wish there were 2 keys, one to increase speed by 1x each time you press it and another to increase speed 0.25x each time you press it.

A rough workaround is to set the frame rate different than the video card:

Let's say you are playing at 24 fos
In the settings you will see the number 24 just above the video card setting (monitoring at 24p)

Type 36 there

Your"play" now it is at 36fps.

When I color movies or TV at 24(23.96) I often pit the monitory at 30fps... just a bit faster review

Bump, +1 to this. I don't have a speed editor, I need a way to playback at 1.5x from a normal keyboard. This was handy in Premiere, please help!

(1x is quite slow for quick review of dialogue, but 2x can be too fast for many speakers.)

Or one person has read it 12k times... probably somewhere in the middle, but either way it would be nice to have finer control.

Seriously, this would be a massive help when scrubbing through footage or a timeline. 2x only works visually while 1.5x is kinda the max (for me) for discerning audio.
