20 Public Beta: Crash when using "Auto" encoder with H.265

PostSat May 17, 2025 1:00 pm

The application reliably crashes when rendering an MP4 (H.265) with the encoder set to "Auto". Crash occurs right away.

Steps to Reproduce:
    Set output format to MP4
    Set codec to H.265
    Set encoder to "Auto"
Start render → application crashes immediately

System Context:
Might not matter, Was using atypical resolution of 8192x2254
    No integrated GPU (desktop system)
    No power-saving mode active
Works as expected when encoder is manually set to "NVIDIA"

"If you have a crash or the app wont start, please include a Resolve generated diagnostic log. The complete log please, not just sections. Note: OS generated logs are not read. We need the Resolve generated logs."

I can't duplicate this. Auto works fine for me.

Studio 20b3 for Windows
RTX 3060 12 GB
Studio Driver 576.02

I believe the issue was probably related to RTX 5090 badly supported in the beta.

Updated to the current release. No more crash.

I believe I was on 572. I'm now on 576.52 and i'm having issues with Magic Mask 2 and Upscale. Seems to freeze the timeline. Software doesn't crash but becomes unusable.
