Magic Mask v2 node copy with tracking data and 'rotoscoping'

PostMon Jun 02, 2025 8:55 pm

Hello,

I just spent 3 hours on magic masking actors from the background, with lots of manual adjustment using the brush tool (is this rotoscoping? anyway) and I want to make an exact copy of this node so I can invert it and tweak both the background and actors to make the right contrast ratios and colors.

However, when I copy the node (I used both standard ctrl-V and paste attributes with everything checked) to a new serial node, the points are no longer tracked. Simple fix I thought, just run the tracker. Well, it doesn't include the manual rotoscoping which took me hours because magic mask AI has some serious limitations.

Alternatively, can I do something else where I can make color and exposure changes to the inverted mask as well as the standard mask? How would I go about that?

It seems like if I was on the dev team, copy should mean COPY. Like an exact clone as default.
Any help would be appreciated... I really would like this to be fun but it always turns into an icepick migraine.
Thanks.

Using resolve v20, nvidia 3090 if it matters

Yeah, copying a tracked feature like this won't copy the actual tracking information. I think the same is true with Windows as well.

My advice would be to actually export the External Mask if you want to do that, and that will give you a permanent Magic Mask that never has to be re-rendered:

When I was searching the forums I found your reply saying there's a way to copy windows on another magic mask post. That won't bring in the tracked information?
I will check out the video. Really the dev team should figure out a way to rout that tracking information to another node. Thanks!
