Black dot bmcc

Hi,

My bmcc does the black dot thing in the very strong highlights, and I'm a bit concerned. Do I need to send it back to BMD, or maybe it's already fixed with the last firmware? My camera arrived just few days ago, and it's running the latest firmware as I already updated it, is this issue fixed via firmware, or is it going to be, or is it just a hardware problem?

It's not been fixed on the BMCC. Only the BMPCC has been fixed.

Not sure it will tho we all hope there will be an update that addresses various things in the near future.

What's your recipe?

Use the tracker with a small circle mask with a feathered edge. You can then increase the exposure of the mids and lows so they clip.

If need be you can add a bit of a tint to it.

Normally do this on node 3 after my colour corrections but before my "look".

Thank you Adam, do you know how can it be fixed in post using a different program? My computer won't run Resolve so I'm using After Effects...

The principle in After Effects would be the same. First you need to run the tracker on the black dot. Then you can create a feathered circular shape that can be tracked to the dot. This would then mask the dot. Make the shape white or pick the colour that surrounds the dot if it's off white.

The shape will then blend in and follow the black dot.
