I haven't heard of that problem before, but if re-installing the current firmware doesn't address it, directly contact BMD tech support for your region so they can evaluate your issue.
A couple of things to check: Is the camera's fan working? The fan normally runs all the time when the cam is on. If you put your ear next to the cam, can you hear it? You should also feel a slight breeze coming out of the vents on the bottom of the cam. If the fan isn't running, your cam could overheat, causing various faults. As noted in the user manual, the fan is designed to be user-replaceable (and yours is under warranty), or you can ship the cam to BMD and have them replace it.
Make sure the touchscreen is clean. A tiny amount of glass or lens cleaner should be sufficient to remove possible oily residue on the screen. Not likely to be the cause since you say the cam has to be on for awhile for the problem to occur, but worth checking.
Another troubleshooting test would be operating the cam with and without an external power source to determine if the problem is somehow related to the cam's internal battery or ext. power.
