Interesting. I'm kinda concerned over the manufacturer though as I haven't really seen their product in action.

I seriously had that idea after the URSA came in.

It won't be hard to tear down the BMCC and make an back module to meet the design of the URSA.
So BMCC could look like a proper camera. Too bad I don't have any experience how to machine such aluminium back part.

Is real but you'll defo void your warranty. You have to send off your camera to China for it to be modded. and in the end If your at a stage where you're willing to send the camera off you more than likely have enough extra bits to cover external batteries, outputs etc. The point of the camera was always modular. The built in batteries were just a fail safe and is one of it's strengths not weaknesses. Wish people would stop going on about them.

That is awesome! But looks even more awkward to use the back LCD on a camera that deep, they should have added a few quarter twenties on the side so we could stick a grip further back to help balance; or maybe just an evf.

They should be embarrassed by the design then! lol

$1500! crazy. You can buy your battery and audio solutions for that price. Really good quality stuff too.

Oh man, this is rich. Just seems like they're teasing BMD.

Added options are amazing, but that thing looks awkward and heavy. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to trade off the modularity of the oem body. Very cool though.

This would be awesome if they added built in XLR with correctly adjusted pre amps and phantom power, plus LED metering on the side. They would have just turned the camera into an Ursa, in a smaller form factor!!! Who wants external audio recorder, you don pay another thousand just for sync with external audio?

The Kinemax 6k and their other cameras are quite interesting and tempting. I was actually thinking about buying a Kinemax 6k, but I've found out its sensor doesn't feature global shutter, so I guess the image could get 'wobbly' sometimes. Then I've given it up, restricting my options to Cion and Ursa only. But time will tell.

Crazy thing is that it seems that kinifinity is doing more for the BMCC than BMD, at least on the outside...

For company that is trying to bring some really interesting cameras out ,brake into new markets and they did created some interest,Kinefinity showed total disrespect by this offering, not just by being greedy and arrogantly insensitive, this invention is merit of their depth and if they gonna charge $1500 for that invention, then you gotta give it to BMD for giving us almost the whole camera for $1999...

If this was a just accessory, like an adapter or viewfinder etc, that would be OK,but to offer to"repair"
competition's cameras in house it shows level of desperation.

I would never send my BMCC there, like it in current form lot better then that.

Ok, this is actually a modification I would be willing to pay 1500$ for.

Image
Image

1. Flip the screen on the side.
2. Mount in the back cheese plate for battery plates
3. Include SDI distibution
4. Include Audio Levels
5. Include shoulder pad
6. Include top handle

Won't add a mass of weight, and even if it does, the camera's is already close to the URSA form factor. Which actually looks like a tripod work horse.

Nice rendering!

A suggestion: Switch sides for the plugs/connectors and the SSD slot, so connected cables aren't in the cam op's face.

USRA is too big and has too many unupgradable screens. It would have been better if it didn't come with built in screens. What happens if you want to update the monitors? You can't. Plus the AC can't use the small screen on the dummy side if the quality is anything like the screens on the BMCC/BMPC. The AC will likely have to use a different monitor anyway. Also the AC should have the best monitor not the DP. It's the AC pulling focus. It they were thinking at all they would have known to put the 10 inch monitor on the dummy side. Anyway a smaller URSA without screens is the way to go.

The best part how I see that module - that it's not gonna be like a bulky box Kinifinity done.

It's only gonna be 100mm width.

Your design idea is great Nikolay.

Also agree that SDI connections should be the other way around, include phantom power and if this ever gets off the ground by BMD it would have my $1500,too.

With all currently announced firmware fixes and in that form,it would sell like Christmas cakes.

In fact BMD should offer this as "refit" to counter Kinefinity deal as well as sell camera new out of box as well and at least you should get new URSA for idea pitch ;)

Maybe Kinefinity will buy Blackmagic soon, after BM has no more money left due to the lawsuits they will have to face because of delivering non working products and false promises in their advertisement and technical descriptions
