RedSharkNews asks whether URSA heralds a new dawn?

PostSat Apr 12, 2014 1:54 pm

Are most professionals sticking with Sony? After all, the sensors they make are among the world's best and their professional after sales service is legendary. So says Simon Wyndham writing in RedSharkNews today but he believes the BMD URSA and the new Aja Cion have the potential to shake up the camera industry forever:

Craig, we shall see in a year. It is interesting that we expected a shakeup after NAB 2012 but two years later the moves are modest (nevertheless important) from the big players and another upstart, AJA CION) is outdoing BMD at least in terms of faster frame rates from (allegedly) the same sensor!

You'd think people would get the pattern by now:

The camera BMD announces at next year's NAB will be The One.

BMD is already working on their next camera, right now, and (as always) at the expense of the previous models and customers.

There's a reason why "3 strikes, you're out!" is a popular truism.

I hear you, Richard.

I gave BMD the benefit of the doubt for a l-o-n-g time, some would say for way too long.

But this NAB was the last straw for me. And it has nothing to do with the fact that I now finally own my first BMD cam, a BMPC-4K, because I actually have one of the mostly-functional ones.

I gave BMD plenty of time to fix their past mistakes with the BMCC, BMPCC and BMPC-4K. Time's up.

(Not looking forward to how BMD screws-up the Studio cams and URSA ...)
