Decklink HD Extreme

I have a Decklink HD Extreme and wore it with windows (AVI). Now, I switched to the Mac platform, and continue using the same Decklink board, my question is: how do I turn all the videos I have on AVI to MOV format for use on the Mac? I use ADOBE CS6 package. I've tried several ways but can not get a satisfactory result. Any tips?

Hi Pedro,

I'm not sure that converting all your video material is necessarily the way to go. Moving everything to .mov will mean transcoding all that media. I don't know how much you have, but this could take you a long time, and may compromise quality to some extent.

From my experience .avi files will often open OK on Mac as long as you have the right codec installed. I haven't tried this with Premiere CS6, but I would have thought it would work OK. I'm pretty sure previous versions have been OK with importing .avi. Depending on the codecs your media is in, there may be some files that won't work, and for those it maybe is best to transcode.

If you were using Premiere on PC and still have it, I'm reasonably sure you could encode to Quicktime .mov files.

Others may have better suggestions however.

So if you used 8Bit Uncompressed on the PC to capture then you will need to use a 4cc changer to convert the files to the same 4cc code that is used on a Mac System. If you happened to use 10bit uncompressed the 4cc codes are the same and the AVI will work fine on the Mac System.

FYI:
Mac
v210 10bit YUV QT native .mov codec
2yuv 8bit YUV QT native .mov codec

PC
v210 10bit YUV BMD native .avi codec
uyvy 8bit YUV BMD native .avi codec

So you can download a 4cc code changer from fourcc.org. Here's the URL: http://www.fourcc.org/changer/

In the case of you using 8bit uncompressed you would want to change the uyvy (used on Windows) to 2yuv (used on mac)

No you're not. Or i'm very very confused. MJPG is not a valid 4cc for an uncompressed file.

MJPG is a 4cc code for the Motion JPEG codec which is compressed.

So you cannot simply change the 4cc code in this case. Because you want to change codec types, you will need to transcode from one format to another. So you can use Premiere, (or a number of other transcoding softwares) and open the Motion JPG file and then export it as an uncompressed (export to 10bit because that file will work on a mac with no 4cc code adjustment).

Sorry. I'm using MJPG COMPRESSED file on windows (AVI) and on MAC I'm using ProRes 422 compressed too (MOV).
Are there a easy way "to use" (convert) AVI compressed to MOV compressed?
