Weight of a fully rigged BMCC?

PostWed Nov 21, 2012 5:41 pm

Hi,

If you like, let me know what your rig set up is and how heavy? I can guess from there.

I'm sure DoPs here would know off the top off their head or can give a good guestimate of the weight of a rigged BMCC. My rig at the moment is...

prime lens
15" rods
external sony battery (from my old Sony camcorder) with adaptor
7" ext monitor
beechtek (for XLR audio, phantom power)
ND filters
base plate
follow focus
sun hood
Matte box

Am I right in saying the BMCC is not in the weight category of DSLRs so sliders and dollies advertised for DSLRs wouldn't be recommended on the BMCC?

Another silly question, do I need a cage? Or is it a nice to have or something I can get later on?

My intended use is for green screen work and outdoor shoots; initially for shorts. Will be mostly from tripod.

Thanks for any help,
Jules

My last findings with the rig I had in mind came up to under 21 lbs.

BMCC
ViewFactor Cage
RR 15mm rig (ff, matte, shoulder, etc...)
Juiced Link Pre
AB plate and a single Dionic
typical Rokinon Cine 35mm lens

But I cancelled the BMCC and now dealing with buying new stuff for my Scarlet.
Only a few things on my list will work.

@ jules

my set-up will be similar to yours.

the guy at Adorama told me 20+ lbs estimate. i'm researching today for steadicam rig (with vest or waist belt) options. any pointers would be appreciated.
