No Analog Video output on Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0

PostTue Sep 16, 2014 1:55 pm

* Problem:
Intensity Shuttle USB connects to PC via USB 3.0, has HDMI out but there is no analog video our audio out available on any port except HDMI.

* System Specification:
- Asus Z87 Plus (listed in recommended motherboards by BM)
- Intel Core i5-4570 @ 3.2GHz
- 8 GB Memory
- Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64
- Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0

* BM Control Panel Settings Screenshot:

* Troubleshooting performed:
1- Ran USB Host controller utility which says "Failed to acquire firmware version" but still HDMI out is available. While there is only eXtensible Host controller not renesas host controller in device manager.
2- Set output processing to "HD to SD Letterbox"
3- Tried every available option for "Input processing"
4- Re-installed and upgraded BM Desktop Video (From supplied version 9.9 to 10.1.1)
5- Connected onto different USB 3.0 ports
6- Installed external USB 3.0 Hub (VIA USB 3.0) but no luck with renesas host controller.

Can anyone recommend any further suggestions?

P.S. Our requirement is to have HDMI out (720p) with Composite out (576i, PAL) available at same time while working with HD source in playback mode (Not capturing mode).

That's odd, as it works fine with mine.

Only thing i'm more worried about is that Asus Z87 Plus is listed in recommended motherboards by BlackMagic but still it has no renesas usb host controller but eXtensible host controller :?: and more on that it is working on HDMI out :?

Well, let me clear one more fact i'm doubtful is

"whether or not Intensity Shuttle or Pro produce HDMI out (1280x720p) simultaneously with Composite/S-Video out (720x576i PAL) while down-conversion is set to work?"

For me, it works (though I'm NTSC, not PAL). HD out via HDMI, and downcoverted SD out via composite.

Are you sure the HDMI is going out as HD? When I turn on down-convert my HDMI starts outputting SD along with the Composite output, and if I don't turn on down-convert I only get HD out through HDMI and nothing through composite

Thank you for clarification of setting "down-conversion" to get Analog video out working.

Yes, HD out is definitely 1280x720 50 Hz but somehow I couldn't get any of analog video out. Even I've upgraded desktop video to 10.2.1 and every possible "Set default video standard" options.

Can you share what settings are working for you?

What I meant was when you turn on the down-convert the HDMI output will also be set to SD. The only way to get an SD signal when using an HD output is to turn on the down-convert, this then makes the output through HDMI and Component also SD

Very well.

This is not what I thought when buying Intensity Shuttle. I wanted to have 720p out through HDMI out while 576i SD out through Composite out.

I'll test this too. Apparently this doesn't produce any effect on go. May be it requires system restart.

You shouldn't have to restart the computer, just the software you are using

As basic requirement of shuttle USB 3.0 is to have Renesas USB host controller to work.

I just managed to test it on someones Dell Inspiron N5510 which has Renesas eXtensible USB Host Controller but still only HDMI out but NO Analog A/V out on all ports even down-conversion was set.

Screenshot of same is here;https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwheunojl3smgk1/Black%20magic%20settings%20renesas%20eXtensible.PNG?dl=0

What version of Windows is the Dell machine using? By the look of things it isn't using a Renesas driver, but a Microsoft one which would imply it's using Windows 8/8.1.

You should try sending the unit back to get it checked over to make sure it's not faulty
