AES/EBU Digital Audio?

PostWed Aug 29, 2012 3:43 pm

I read somewhere post-NAB that the BMCC has AES/EBU audio in. Is this true? I couldn't find anything in the manual about it.

I remember hearing that rumor around the time of the NAB announcement, too, but to the best of my knowledge it's incorrect.

As stated in the BMCC product page on the BMD website, and in the BMCC user manual, the camera features 2 analog balanced audio inputs, compatible with mic or line level sources, via a pair of 1/4" 3-conductor TRS jacks. The BMCC does not supply phantom power to external audio devices.

Ah crap.

I wonder if that is a hardware capability or if that can be a firmware upgrade?

Would have been a great combination with the Sound Devices MixPre-D.

Understood. I'm looking forward to using my BMCC with my old, trusty SoundDevices original "MixPre" (no "D"). Cheers.

Seems a bit overpriced for what it is giving. You can get a SoundDevices MixPre-D (which would provide much, much better audio - the mic pre-amps are the same ones in the $3000+ models) and a Switrinox battery for about the same price, or even a little less.

I agree Zack and probably the rest of the BMCC followers.
Had to throw it in there so we can get an idea of the ridiculous pricing out there.
